Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

July 27, 2015

The bulk carrier Araya lost power and adrift on 90 nautical miles off Odessa, Ukraine in Black Sea on July 25.

The carrier, en route from Ilyichevsk Ukraine to Constanta Romania, got full blackout several hours after leaving the port of Ilyichevsk. The ship lost power due to mechanical problem and went before the power is restored.

The ship engineers are working to solve the problem and to resume the voyage, but still the ship is adrift off Ukraine in southern direction. The local authorities contacted the vessel and understood the crew is not yet requesting assistance.

They are on standby to dispatch a tug and to start salvage operation in case weather went bad or crew request it. As of 0430 UTC July 26 vessel was some 90 nm south of Odessa, drifting in eastern direction.

Araya was built in 2001 by Shinasb Yard in Tongyoung, South Korea. The vessel is owned and operated by the shipping company Seven Seas Maritime.
