FDGM Awarded U.S. Navy DVD Contract For Mine Warfare Fleet

Monday, June 16, 2003
FDGM, the Northern Virginia subsidiary of Italian engine manufacturer Isotta Fraschini, has been awarded a U.S. Department of Defense contract to supply spare parts items for the non-magnetic diesel engines in the U.S. Navy mine sweeper fleet. Managed by Defense Supply Center in Columbus, Ohio, the contract also includes spare parts items for Defense Logistics Agencies in Richmond and Philadelphia, as well as the Navy Inventory Control Point (NAVICP) in Mechanicsburg, PA. The FDGM contract also includes spare parts items coded for stock replenishment for the mine sweeper fleet. This contract is part of the implementation of a new government transportation management system currently expected in place on or about July 1, 2003. This performance-based contract is valid for three base years with the government's option to extend the contract for an additional three years. The minimum guaranteed annual contract value is $700,000 for the first three years with an annual maximum ceiling of approximately $10,000,000. "We are very pleased to be awarded this important contract to supply spare parts for the Navy's mine sweepers and to use the Direct Vendor Delivery (DVD) form of contracting," said Upi Kamal, Vice President of Operations for FDGM. "We are proud to support the U.S. Navy, our most important customer, and to help represent Italian industry in the United States. FDGM is staffed, stocked and ready to execute the guaranteed 48-hour delivery requirement clause of the new DVD support contract," he continued. Isotta Fraschini/FDGM was recently lauded for its role in Operation Iraqi Freedom as a result of providing special high technology, non-magnetic diesel engines to the U.S. Navy for its mine hunter and mine sweeper ships in the Persian Gulf, as well as a top company engineer during the entire military operation. Isotta Fraschini/FDGM are subsidiaries of FINCANTIERI, one of the most diversified shipbuilding companies in the Mediterranean, and one of the largest in Europe. The company designs, builds, and markets merchant, cruise, and naval vessels, offshore vessels, and is also active in the large conversion and ship repair sectors. In addition to supplying the U.S. Navy, Isotta Fraschini engines are supplied to the Italian Navy and many other friendly countries, as well as for commercial use.
