RFA Brambleleaf Completes Refit

Friday, June 28, 2002
A&P Falmouth has confirmed that the RFA Brambleleaf has successfully completed its latest refit at their facility. The vessel dry docked in Falmouth on May 1 for a refit and repair program which included full hull coating preparation and painting, rudder repairs, propeller blade replacement, remedial work on the anchors and cables, a full overhaul of the ships salt water system and also a major repair/remedial work program carried out on the ships cargo and ballast systems. All within tight parameters of both time and quality control. Further work was carried out after the vessel undocked. This involved the refurbishment of the crews living quarters, freshwater system, galley and food storage areas and the installation of a new sewage treatment plant. On June 14 the vessel was due out for sea trials. For these trials, the yard carried out survey work on the starboard main engine and the starboard diesel alternator, strip down and rebuild of gearbox couplings and clutches, overhaul of numerous pumps, the vessels navigation system and the classification surveyors loadline requirements. The sea trial was carried out on time and to great success. Overall, the contract was completed within strict time constraints and A&P Falmouth are delighted to have been given the opportunity once again by the Ministry of Defence to prove their ship repairing ability and expertise with the RFA Brambleleaf.
