Coast Guard Medevac Fisherman from Vessel

Tuesday, August 12, 2003
A Coast Guard helicopter crew rescued a Vietnamese fisherman from a 40-foot shrimp boat this morning in Terrebonne Bay, neat Cocadrie, LA. The Coast Guard was notified at 5 a.m. by the vessel that a crew member had suffered a severe blow to the head and back and was in need of medical attention. An HH-65B Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Station New Orleans was dispatched to the scene where the crew lowered a rescue swimmer and litter to the shrimp boat. The patient, who was in and out of consciousness, was placed into the rescue litter and brought aboard the helicopter for transfer to a local hospital. Due to inclement weather and low fuel, the helicopter crew transported the patient to Air Station New Orleans where an ambulance waited to transport the patient to West Jefferson Medical Center in Harvey, La.
