Port of Beaumont to Install of Homeland Defense System

Wednesday, July 02, 2003
e-Smart Technologies, Inc. announced that its Homeland Defense, Inc., affiliate has reached an agreement with the Port of Beaumont to install the Company's Biometric Verification - Homeland Defense System (BV-HDS(tm)) together with a number of the Company's subsystems including but not limited to the Super Smart Card(tm) identity verification and sure credentialing subsystem, the Robotic Eye(tm) video surveillance and emergency response subsystem and the AutoTrafficCop(tm) port protection subsystem. This agreement is the result of the port security concerns expressed by Texas Congressman Nick Lampson (D - Beaumont) and the cooperation of the Board of Commissioners of the Port of Beaumont as represented by its Executive Director, Chris Fisher, and the diligent work of Ms. Grace on behalf of the Company. In commenting on this agreement, Ted Combs, Congressman Lampson's chief of staff said, "Traditional security methods such as fences and guardsmen are not enough, the only answer to today's security concerns is technology and we believe that e-Smart and Homeland Defense may have the best technology available. We want to see it in action - now." The agreement is particularly timely in light of recent reports that the oil refineries and port facilities of East Texas have been recognized as vulnerable targets by al-Quida with a high threat alert over this 4th of July holiday weekend. Grace added, "Congressman Lampson has stressed the strategic and critical importance of Texas ports and oil facilities to the economic backbone of the country and the fact that terrorists may seek to strike same as a target to damage America's economy. It is the goal of e-Smart and Homeland Defense to provide our advanced defense system technologies to prevent such an attack at the Port of Beaumont and adjacent vulnerable areas."
