Results of FMC Meeting Announced

Friday, February 01, 2002
The Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) announced the results of its January 30 meeting. The FMC will soon issue a notification to the public about the impact of ticket contract limitations. It will seek to eliminate self-insurance as a means of evidencing financial responsibility and increase coverage requirements to 100 percent. The staff was directed to institute a formal proceeding requiring the Canaveral Port Authority to show cause why its refusal to consider a pending application by a tug operator does not constitute a refusal to deal or negotiate within the meaning of the Shipping Act of 1984.
