Korean engine manufacturer HSD Engine is to offer ABB’s diagnostics and advisory software Tekomar XPERT to shipowners operating its two-stroke and four-stroke marine engines.Tekomar XPERT is a digital performance optimization platform applicable to any engine that is designed to help shipping companies achieve substantial fuel savings and greenhouse gas emission reductions. Oldendorff Orders Two Ultramax Bulk Carriers

German shipowner Oldendorff Carriers revealed on Tuesday that earlier this year it ordered two 61,300 dwt Ultramax newbuilds from Dalian Cosco Kawasaki Ship Engineering Co Ltd (DACKS) for delivery July 2022.The 61,300 Ultramaxes are of the Kawasaki eco design, of which Oldendorff had previously built nine units at DACKS and sister yard NACKS until 2019. AMSC Bags Wind Turbine ECS Order from AMSC

The US-based energy solutions provider AMSC announced it has received a $9 million order for its 5.5 MW wind turbine electrical control systems from the Korean power company Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction (DHIC)AMSC signed an agreement with the South Korea’s wind turbine manufacturer in calendar year 2017 for the rights to design and exclusively supply ECS units to Doosan’s 5.5-megawatt offshore wind turbine.The initial 5.5 MW systems were ordered in January 2018, and AMSC expects to complete shipments under this follow-on order by no later than fiscal year 2020.“We believe that this order represents the beginning of Doosan’s transition into volume production with one of the world’s largest offshore wind turbines,” said Daniel P.

MAN D&T Scoops 11 MSC Vessel Order

MAN Diesel & Turbo has won the order from MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company for 11 × 23,000 TEU container vessels equipped with 11 × MAN B&W 11G95ME-C9.5 main engines. Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) will construct six of the vessels while Daewoo Shipping Marine Engineering (DSME) will construct the remainder. Southampton Marine Services Delivers Svitzer Merlin

U.K. shipbuilder Southampton Marine Services said it has delivered a newly constructed 20.45-meter multipurpose harbor workboat to Svitzer. The new vessel, named Svitzer Merlin, is the forerunner in Southampton Marine Services’ new Bulldog workboats range. A Bulldog 20, the workboat is a repeat Svitzer order for Southampton Marine Services, being similar to the Middlesbrough-based Svitzer Leven. Svitzer Merlin takes her place in the Svitzer fleet being based at Milford Haven, performing general port collection work and recycling of waste from ships at the port.

LOC Enters Offshore Wind Farm Sector in Korea

London Offshore Consultants (LOC) has clinched its first ever windfarm project work in the Asia Pacific region. LOC in Korea has been jointly appointed by reinsurers Swiss Re and Korean Re as the marine warranty surveying service provider for the Tamra Wind Farm project. Meercat Sells Third Workboat to Dawnfresh

MEERCAT Workboats said it has sold a third workboat to Scottish aquaculture firm Dawnfresh. MC26, named Venetia, is an aquaculture specific workboat which will be delivered to Scotland in late August. Venetia is a 15m x 6m monohull workboat designed and principally engineered for aquaculture. The vessel is built to U.K. MCA workboat code of practice CAT 3. She displaces 44T and has a deck loading of 10Tm2. The vessel is powered by two Doosan L136 Ti 460Hp engines with a Beta-Marine 21kVA 50Hz generator. Her deck cargo capacity is 20T.

MSC Jade Sails with MAN's Biggest Engine

The largest and most powerful engine from MAN Diesel & Turbo’s portfolio ever designed and built has entered service. Built by Doosan Engine in Korea and rated at 75,570 kW (103,000 horsepower), the engine is an MAN B&W 11G95ME-C9.5 two-stroke type that acts as prime mover aboard the MSC Jade. The 19,437-teu container vessel is operated by Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), the global container shipping company. Daewoo Shipbuilding (DSME) delivered the newbuilding on 20 May, which subsequently sailed the short tour to Busan. The MSC Jade also features 4 × MAN L32/40 auxiliary engines (2 × 8L32/40 + 2 × 9L32/40 units), each with a single MAN NR34/S turbocharger. Doosan Engine reported the main engine’s initial start during October 2015 and a successful shop-test subsequently followed.

Meercat Workboat for Briggs Marine

U.K.-based Meercat Workboats has sold a custom built monohull workboat to Briggs Marine. The vessel (Hull no. 28) is 15.5m LOA, and 6m beam. Fabrication is well under way at Meercat’s Portchester facility in Portsmouth, Hampshire, with Briggs Marine to take to delivery later this year. The workboat has been configured to facilitate a deck cargo capacity of 20 metric tons and a liquid cargo capacity of sum 2 x 10,000 liters; with 2 x Doosan main engines and a BETA Marine 21kVA generator.

Creditors Putting Pressure on Samsung Heavy

The restructuring issue of Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) will spread to the entire Samsung Group as its main creditor Korea Development Bank(KDB)  and the financial authorities are putting pressure on the group, reports Business Korea. SHI has submitted its self-rescue plan to its main creditor, the state-run KDB, the Korea Herald reports citing a company official as saying on Tuesday. The plan, aimed at restoring the company’s liquidity, reportedly includes up to 1,500 job cuts, selling of KRW 200 billion worth (USD 169 million) of real estate assets and disposing of stakes in Doosan Engine. HHI to Localise Main Equipment for Offshore Plants

Seoul, South Korea – February 4 – Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), the world’s largest shipbuilder, announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on the localization of main equipment and materials for offshore plants with Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction (DHIC) and Center for Creative Economy & Innovation in Ulsan and Gyeongnam. HHI and DHIC agreed to develop six main items of equipment for offshore plants such as floating, production, storage and offloading (FPSO) units and tension leg platforms (TLP), by sharing engineering and construction technology and prowess in on- and offshore plant sectors where the two companies have been actively played.
