Kongsberg Digital (KDI) won four successive contracts with maritime training centers, schools and universities in South Korea.In the first quarter of 2021, the delivery of K-Sim Offshore and DP simulators to the Korea Institute of Maritime and Fishery Technology (KIMFT) was followed by the handover of K-Sim Mooring simulators to the Busan Techno Park foundation, an organization dedicated to the development of mid- and long-term strategies and policies for local industries.Following this, KDI has been awarded contracts by two of Korea’s most distinguished educational establishments.

Kongsberg Digital has signed a contract for a delivery of two new K-Sim Full Mission Bridge simulators at the Royal Australian Navy’s (RAN) HMAS Watson Bridge Simulator Facility in Watsons Bay, Sydney, Australia. NYC Ferry operated by Hornblower is teaming up with the oldest merchant marine academy in the country to deliver a world class training program before a majority of the new NYC Ferry vessels even arrive in New York Harbor. Carnival Corporation & plc today announced the official opening of its Arison Maritime Center, a world-class facility dedicated to providing safety training for its bridge and engineering officers responsible for the navigation and operation of the company’s fleet of cruise ships. Located in Almere, Netherlands just outside Amsterdam, the new 75-million-euro facility features some of industry’s most advanced simulators and training equipment to provide annual training to more than 6,500 bridge and engineering officers from Carnival’s 10 global cruise line brands.

LR is participating in the MAXCMAS project, a £1.27million collaborative research project that aims to investigate, develop and implement real-time collision avoidance algorithms for autonomous maritime vessels. The MAXCMAS project aims to develop COLREGs (International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea 1972) compliant collision avoidance navigation for autonomous ships and other Unmanned Surface Vessels (USVs). Compliance with current and future regulations is instrumental to the wide-scale use of USVs at sea. Being able to demonstrate satisfactory autonomous operation that meets the COLREGs is also pivotal to maritime safety. The project also hopes to carry out comprehensive machine execution of the COLREGs and demonstrate these in part in real-world representative sea trials.

The Royal Australian Navy (RAN) is expanding its maritime simulator facility at HMAS Watson, Sydney with the addition of new KONGSBERG ship-handling and navigation simulators and the integration of a new visual display system for its existing bridge simulator. The expansion has been established under the current support contract between KONGSBERG and RAN, in order to provide capacity to meet current and increasing demands for training. Kongsberg Digital, the new KONGSBERG Group division dedicated to delivering next generation software and digital solutions, including maritime simulators, will deliver a new stand-alone Full Mission ship’s bridge simulator, and a Part Mission bridge simulator based on its established and proven K-Sim Polaris simulator platform.
