SUNY Maritime Grads Start at Higher Salary: PayScale

September 15, 2014

What do SUNY Maritime College graduates have that Princeton, Harvard, Yale, and Columbia graduates don’t have?  Higher starting annual salaries; that’s what, answers SUNY.

In fact, SUNY Maritime College has the highest-earning alumni of any state public college in the nation, according to PayScale, Inc. in its 2014-15 College Salary Report issued last week.

What differentiates the PayScale, Inc. report from the other national third-party endorsements, says SUNY, is that it focuses on alumni outcomes.  According to the report, SUNY Maritime bachelor's-only graduates report early career median salaries of $62,100 and mid-career median incomes of $121,700.

Maritime College’s ranking by PayScale, Inc. comes days following the 2015 rankings by U.S. News & World Report, where SUNY Maritime was ranked sixth among public colleges in the North Region.  In August, Maritime was ranked as a Best College in the Northeast by The Princeton Review for an eighth successive year.  The College also is ranked as a Military Friendly School for 2015.

According to PayScale, Inc., prospective college students are being asked to make critical decisions about their financial future without all of the necessary information.  If students understand a bit about their future earning potential before making choices about where to attend, what to major in and how much to borrow, they are in a much better position financially once they graduate and enter the workforce.

SUNY explains that PayScale, Inc. is the creator of the largest database of individual compensation profiles in the world containing more than 40 million salary profiles.  PayScale, Inc. provides an immediate and precise snapshot of current market salaries to employees and employers through its online tools and software. PayScale's product s are powered by innovative algorithms that dynamically acquire, analyze and aggregate compensation information for millions of individuals in real-time.
