Leaked fuel that contacted a hot surface in the engine room was determined to be the immediate cause of a fire that burned for three days aboard the auto and passenger vessel Caribbean Fantasy in August 2016.According to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), who reported their findings Tuesday, the fire started in the main engine room of the 614-foot long, Panamanian-flagged vessel, when fuel spraying from a leaking flange contacted the hot surface of the port main…

Operational Management Program for Offshore Industry

ABS Nautical Systems LLC has released a new version of its advanced ABS SafeNet operational and management system software, developed to meet the needs of the offshore industry. The new system has been released as ABS SafeNet Offshore. ABS SafeNet Offshore is equally applicable to mobile and fixed units, to ship shaped drilling and production units, to spars, TLPs, semisubmersibles and platforms. "This is a very flexible program," says Jack Kitchura, president of ABS Nautical Systems. "Its advanced, integrated, modular design means it is equally applicable to the operator of a very small fleet as it is for the largest operator.
