Elbit Bags Order to Supply Equipment to Brazil Marine Corps

Elbit Systems announced that it won a $40 million contract from the Brazilian Marines to supply advanced systems for computerization, electronic warfare, radio, and communications. The contract will be performed over a two-year period. The contract calls for the supply of cutting-edge technologies and operational capabilities, including a variety of Battle Management Systems (BMS) applications, C4I systems for artillery, latest generation of Soldier C4I suit as well as advanced EW capabilities. The systems will be deployed in fixed and deployed command centers and in vehicles/APCs and dismounted configurations, aiming to significantly enhance Marine Forces' operational effectiveness, and aligning the BMC with the most modern NCW (Network Centric Warfare) concept.

China Looks to Join Big US-led Pacific Naval Drills

A giant U.S.-led naval exercise began off Hawaii on Thursday with China joining its Asia-Pacific rivals for the first time, but analysts doubted the drills will ease tensions over Chinese maritime claims and some said Beijing could use them to strengthen its navy. Washington and its allies hope China's participation in the five-week Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercises, involving 55 vessels, more than 200 aircraft and some 25,000 personnel from 22 countries, will build trust and help avert misunderstandings on the high seas that could escalate into crisis. But analysts say the maneuvers may only help Beijing strengthen its growing naval capability by observing the forces of the United States and its allies. Twenty-three nations had been expected to participate in RIMPAC this year.

KVH Receives $8.6 Million Tactical Navigation Order

KVH Industries, Inc. has received an $8.6 million order for its TACNAV® tactical navigation systems for use by an international military customer. Revenue from this order is expected to begin late in the fourth quarter of 2011 and conclude in the fourth quarter of 2014. "KVH's TACNAV tactical navigation solution is an important tool for U.S. and allied warfighters, providing precision navigation as well as coordination of vehicles in critical situations," explains Dan Conway, KVH's vice president of business development. "The system serves as a crucial resource for navigation and battle management, and even as a backup in GPS-denied environments, keeping soldiers safe and out of harm's way wherever they travel.

Northrop Grumman Names Klein VP of M&TS

Northrop Grumman Corporation has appointed Robert W. Klein vice president of Maritime and Tactical Systems (M&TS). He manages both the diverse range of current products in the M&TS portfolio and the development of new products for this domestic and international market segment. Klein leads a team that integrates sensors, systems, platforms, weapons, and networks into unique products. It is developing and producing several systems that detect or destroy mines at sea or on the beachheads; a new, high-speed combat craft with battle management capabilities; and, they are helping the U.S. Navy package some of these and many other systems into roll-on/roll-off packages of weapons and sensors for the distinct missions of the new Littoral Combat Ships.

Lincoln Battle Group Deploys with NAVSEA Technologies

A variety of Naval Sea Systems Command programs will make their debut with the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) Battle Group, which recently departed for a six-month deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Northrop Grumman Wins U.K.'s Maritime Surveillance Study

Northrop Grumman Corporation has been awarded a contract to perform a study for the United Kingdom's Maritime Airborne Surveillance and Control (MASC) program. This study will concentrate on a manned rotary-wing solution for MASC, which will provide the future maritime airborne early warning and battle management system. Follow-on phases are expected to further define the preferred option or options, working towards a production contract after further U.K. Ministry of Defence approval. Northrop Grumman's contract is one of several studies that have been awarded. MASC will be the airborne node of the Royal Navy's network-enabled capability -- the third element in its carrier strike capability and, as such, integrated with the Joint Combat Aircraft and the Future Carrier.
