World’s First Zero-emission Cruise Ship Ordered

Northern Xplorer has signed a letter of intent (LoI) with Portuguese shipbuilder West Sea for the construction its maiden vessel, said to be the world’s first zero-emission cruise ship.West Sea intends to build the 250-passenger vessel at its facility in Viana do Costello north of Porto for expected delivery at the start of the 2025/2026 cruise season.“As a shipbuilder focused on advanced vessels and high quality, we very much look forward to working together with Northern Xplorer.

NUWC Division, Newport Signs EPA with New Bedford Whaling Museum

51 Awarded Scholarships by Singapore Maritime Industry

A total of 51 scholarships worth more than S$1.4 million were awarded this year, as part of continuous outreach and talent development efforts to meet the manpower needs of the growing Singapore maritime industry - an area which contributes to some 7 per cent of the nation's economy. Sponsored by maritime companies and organisations, the MaritimeONE (Maritime Outreach NEtwork) scholarships and Tripartite Maritime Scholarship Scheme (TMSS) support various local and overseas diploma and degree programmes. In all, 40 MaritimeONE and 11 TMSS scholarships were presented at the MaritimeONE Scholarship Awards Ceremony held at the M Hotel Singapore this evening.

Heilmann Takes Over for Retiring Matson Senior VP

Matson, Inc., a U.S. carrier in the Pacific, announced today that Kevin O'Rourke, senior vice president and chief legal officer, is retiring after 21 years with Matson. O'Rourke will be succeeded by Peter Heilmann, who has been promoted to senior vice president and chief legal officer. O'Rourke joined Matson in 1992 as vice president and general counsel.
