Kongsberg Digital's Remote DP Training Approved by The Nautical Institute

A remote simulation solution for Dynamic Positioning (DP) Induction Courses developed by Kongsberg Digital (KDI) to support training centers worldwide during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns has been approved by The Nautical Institute.Since the start of the pandemic, KONGSBERG has been ramping up the delivery of cloud-based eLearning and remote training solutions to support education and training institutes and meet the challenges imposed by the impossibility of carrying out tuition in a physical classroom situation.

Bulgarian Naval Academy Acquires VSTEP Simulators

On the 6th of August 2016, the official opening ceremony for The Centre for Integrated Management and Monitoring of the Coastal Zone was inaugurated by Mr. Boyko Borisov, the Prime Minister of Bulgaria. At the opening ceremony were present the Rector of the Academy, Commodore Prof. DSc Boyan Mednikarov and Deputy Chief of Educational and Scientific Activities, Captain Prof. Dr Kalin Kalinov. Siemens Power and Drive Systems for New DSV

Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Co. Ltd (ZPMC) has commissioned Siemens to equip the latest diving support vessel being built for Toisa Ltd. with complete drive and power systems. According to Siemens, the solution is designed to improve the vessel’s reliability and maneuverability, as well as reduce fuel consumption, so lowering overall operating costs. The integrated drive system (IDS) used in the vessel, with a length of approximately 146 meters, conforms with the international certification standards of DNV GL.

TU Varna Opens Maritime Simulator Wing

New simulator wing features DNV certified VSTEP Dynamic Positioning and Full Mission Bridge Simulators and type approved ECDIS classroom. The simulation center of the Technical University of Varna officially opened its new simulation wing on May 21, 2015, following the opening of its simulation center in 2012. All the simulators in the TU Varna training center are delivered and installed by VSTEP. The new wing features a NAUTIS Class B DP Simulator as well as a NAUTIS class A Full Mission Bridge Simulator and a new ECDIS Simulator classroom.

BSEE Issues Alert on DP System Failure

Dynamic positioning system failures on offshore supply vessels engage in oil and gas operations in the U.S. The U.S. Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) has issued a Joint Safety Alert addressing a dynamic positioning (DP) incident involving an offshore supply vessel (OSV) which resulted in a loss of position while conducting a critical Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) activity. The OSV was attached to a wellhead, lost position and severed the wellhead tree causing a lubricant release on the platform deck and to the environment. Immediately prior to the position loss, the OSV had multiple DP system alarms and failures, including loss of bow thruster and engine control. No attempt was made to identify or correct the causes of these failures and the operations continued.

DSCV SBM Installer Sold to OS Installer

SBM Offshore has entered into an agreement to sell the DSCV SBM Installer, a Diving Support and Construction Vessel (DSCV), to OS Installer AS for US$150 million in cash. OS Installer AS is a newly established joint venture between Ocean Yield ASA (75%) and SBM Offshore (25%). Both parties have signed a memorandum of agreement, and SBM Offshore will charter the vessel under a long-term bareboat charter for a fixed period of 12 years. The Company will have certain options to acquire the vessel during the bareboat charter period, with the first option exercisable after five years. The transaction is expected to close before the end of 2014 and is subject to final agreement on bank financing.

Transocean Orders Two New Ultra-Deepwater Drillships

Transocean Ltd. inform that a subsidiary company has awarded contracts to Sembcorp Marine's subsidiary, Jurong Shipyard, in Singapore for construction of two newbuild dynamically positioned ultra-deepwater drillships with contract options for up to three more. GE to Supply DP for Cylindrical Accommodation Vessel

GE’s Power Conversion business has won a contract for the supply of dynamic positioning (DP) for a vessel Floating Accommodation Unit that Cosco (Nantong) Shipyard in Nantong City, China, is building for Logitel Offshore, the Singapore-based floating logistics and accommodation rig owner that has an exclusive license agreement to use the proprietary Sevan Marine design within the floating accommodation market. The complete project includes a C-Series Class 3 DP system and manual thruster control system. Sevan Marine specializes in units with cylindrical hulls, but until now it has used the design only for Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) units and deep water Mobile Offshore Drilling Units (MODU).

Transas Hellas Selected by COSMOS Training Center

Transas Hellas and COSMOS Nautical Training Center (Greece) has signed an agreement for supply and installation of Dynamic Positioning simulators. Under the contract, COSMOS NTC, Transas Global ECDIS Training Network (GET-Net) Partner, will gain  Transas Class B and Class C DP simulators. The simulators will expand the existing Transas Full Mission Bridge and the Mini Bridge Simulators, which will be upgraded to the latest Navi-Trainer Professional 5000 software. Adding a DP2 station with MT controls will make it possible to use the Full Mission Bridge as a DP simulator Class B.

C-Mar Enters Major FMEA Contract with Maridive

C-MAR Group, an offshore and marine industry services company, announced that it has won a contract to carry out Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA) surveys and trials on Maridive Group vessels for the next five years. Expected to be worth in excess of $500,000, the agreement covers 16 Maridive Dynamic Positioned (DP) vessels and will be serviced from C-MAR’s Singapore, Dubai and Rio de Janeiro regional headquarters. All Class Two and Class Three DP vessels are required under classification rules to undergo annual DP FMEA testing. Under the terms of the contract C-MAR will provide a continuous review of the Maridive DP fleet, and where possible will synchronize them with vessels’ five yearly Classification Society special surveys.

Kongsberg Offshore Vessel Simulator for Bibby Ship Management India

Bibby Ship Management India Pvt. Ltd contracted Kongsberg Maritime to deliver a Kongsberg Offshore Vessel Simulator (KOVS) including an upgrade of the customer’s existing Kongsberg Dynamic Positioning (DP) simulator in Mumbai. This extension to the Bibby Training Institute Mumbai represents the first KOVS in India and was commissioned to strengthen Bibby’s ability to conduct advanced training courses for Indian seafarers. The Bibby Training Institute Mumbai has already helped to grow the number of certified Indian DP operators, from 60 when it opened in 2006 to more than 1,000 today.

A new Offshore Simulator Center (OSC) is being finalized  in Aalesund, Norway to provide advanced training in offshore ship operations. The new facilities are located in a 'Norwegian Competence Center building' next to the Aalesund University College. Saipem America's Chloe Candies vessel spread will be available for work in August 2010. The Chloe Candies is a U.S. Flagged, 280-ft Class II DP vessel with 8,000 sq.-ft. deck area, a 20-ft x 25-ft moon pool and a 75 ton offshore rated crane. The vessel is outfitted with two Innovator ROVs, (one 150 Hp system and one 250 Hp system), surface positioning and HiPAP 500 USBL system and a deployment winch with 11,000-ft of wire to support light construction operation and IMR in up to 10,000-ft and as well as diving support.
