Sailorsā€™ Society Names Baade as CEO

Global maritime charity Sailorsā€™ Society announced Sara Baade has been appointed as its new chief executive officer, starting in September 2020.Baade has a strong background in management and strategic policy and brings extensive experience in leading an international welfare charity from her current role as CEO of The Army Families Federation. Her career also includes working as a senior civil servant for the Department of Business Innovation and Skills, a directorship at the charity UK Skills and substantial experience in investment banking.Sailorsā€™ Societyā€™s Chair of Trusteesā€¦

UK Offers Substantial R&D Tax Breaks: Consultants

Accounting and consulting network Moore Stephens inform that as part of the UK governmentā€™s continuing aim to attract new companies to the UK to create growth and jobs, significant changes have been made to the tax rules over the last few years to encourage research and development (R&D) activities and valuable corporation tax reliefs are available to companies undertaking such activities. It is often the case that companies incorrectly view the R&D tax reliefs as only being available to ā€˜traditionalā€™ R&D industries, such as pharmaceuticals and medicine. However, R&D relief is not restricted to particular industries. It is available to all companies provided the activities undertaken are qualifying R&D activities.

Board Game Seeks to Transform Supply Chain Learning

Three years after its inception, today sees the official launch of an innovative new board game designed to teach young people of all ages about the importance of todayā€™s supply chain in global commerce. The game - Business on the Move - aims to inspire, excite and educate young people from the age of 9 to 19 and beyond. The aim of the game is for players to move different products from China to their U.K. customers by land, sea and air, as quickly, as profitably and as responsibly as they can.

New UK Polar Research Ship Construction Funded

The British Government has earmarked more than £200 million for a new UK polar flagship that will be ready for its first science mission in 2019, according to news from the British Antarctic Survey. Owned by NERC (Natural Environment Research Council), and operated by NERCā€™s British Antarctic Survey (BAS) on behalf of the UK polar science community, this new state-of-the-art research ship will deliver the next generation of UK world-leading marine science in the Antarctic and the Arctic. ā€œThis an exciting time for UK polar science and I am delighted with this announcement. It signals a firm commitment by Government and NERC to sustain and promote the UKā€™s world-leading capability for UK research in both polar regions.

2013 ICOMIA/IFBSO Congress News

The 2013 ICOMIA/IFBSO Congress was held in London, United Kingdom from June 11-14,  2013 and was hosted and organized by the British Marine Federation (BMF) at Devonport House, located in Londonā€™s exclusive Royal Greenwich, a World Heritage Site. The first two days of Congress consisted of various committee meetings including the first gathering of ICOMIAā€™s new committees: "Grow Boating," which examines current campaigns dedicated to growing recreational boating globally and the "Exporters Committee," which provides members a forum to share knowledge on export markets, discuss import regulations and exchange information on overseas boat/trade show experiences.
