Modi Seeks Japan's Help for 'inclusive vision'

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Japan on Saturday seeking to capitalise on his affinity with Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe to strengthen security and business ties on his first major foreign visit since his landslide election victory in May. Modi is one of only three people that Abe follows on Twitter, while the Indian leader admires the Japanese premier's brand of nationalist politics. "We will explore how Japan can associate itself productively with my vision of inclusive development in India," Modi said before departing on Saturday for the five-day visit. He listed manufacturing, infrastructure and energy as key areas for cooperation. In his previous role as chief minister of India's fast-growing western state of Gujarat Modi had actively courted Japanese investment.

Stolt-Nielsen Limited to Acquire Storage Terminal

Stolt-Nielsen Limited (Oslo Børs: SNI) announced today that it reached an agreement to acquire a bulk-liquid storage terminal at Dagenham, Port of London, UK, from Norbert Dentressangle SA. The completion of the acquisition is subject to the transfer of licenses and permits, and the receipt of necessary approvals to operate the facility. The transaction is expected to close during the Company's fourth quarter of 2012. Further terms were not disclosed. The terminal occupies 9.4 hectares and consists of 195 tanks with a total capacity of 134,000 cbm and a jetty with a draft of 9.3 meters. In addition to bulk-liquid storage, services include warehousing, drumming and bulk container filling, laboratory services, blending, dilution and product heating.

UMass Research on Deep-Sea Fish Noise

UMass Amherst Ecologists among the First to Record and Study Deep-sea Fish Noises. University of Massachusetts Amherst fish biologists have published one of the first studies of deep-sea fish sounds in more than 50 years, collected from the sea floor about 2,237 feet (682 meters) below the North Atlantic. With recording technology now more affordable, Rodney Rountree, Francis Juanes and colleagues are exploring the idea that many fish make sounds to communicate with each other, especially those that live in the perpetual dark of the deep ocean.
