Dubai Launches Agency to Regulate Dhow Sector

The Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC), in cooperation with Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA), have launched the Marine Agency to oversee wooden dhow ships and regulate all their activities while they’re in Dubai waters. Wärtsilä Closes Acquisition of SES

The technology group Wärtsilä strengthens its service offering by acquiring Ships Electronic Services Ltd (“SES”), a UK based company specializing in navigation and communication electronics, installation, maintenance and repair services, mainly for commercial and leisure vessels. The acquisition was signed and closed on 2 May 2019.SES, established in 1974, has its headquarters in Rochester and operates also out of nine other offices in the UK. The company, together with its wholly-owned subsidiary Greenham Regis Ltd, holds a strong local presence across the local marine service market. SES’ turnover is approximately GBP 10m and the company employs 47 staff. The enterprise value of the transaction is GBP 3.2m.

SES Supports Medical Ship Project in Peru

In support of the Vine Trusts’ latest project in the Peruvian Amazon, Ships Electronic Services (SES) will provide and install a comprehensive navigation and communications system aboard the Trusts’ new medical ship MV Forth Hope. Built by David Abels in Bristol the 35 meter vessel has been fitted out to the Trusts’ specification by Babcock International Group in Rosyth and will now be completed with a sophisticated electronics navigation and communication system developed by SES for her departure in the first half of July.

FreeSpeak II Wireless Systems for UK Navy

Ships Electronic Services Ltd (SES Ltd) has supplied Clear-Com FreeSpeak II digital wireless communication systems to the UK Ministry of Defence for three of its naval vessels, with more in the pipeline. SES Ltd, working with SeaKing Group Ltd, based in the North West of England was tasked with delivering strong, efficient and continuous wireless communication links throughout the vessels. “The MoD required clear communications for its engineers working in engine rooms and machinery spaces,” said Jeff Dixon, Sales Manager at SES Ltd. “This is a challenge faced by many vessel operators who traditionally use magnetic loop, conventional radio or infra-red solutions.

Port Community System Unveiled at Dubai Seminar

Ships Electronic Services (SES), an industry leader in the supply, installation and maintenance of maritime electronics, has won a contract from Finmeccanica – Selex ES to supply a PA & General Alarm system to each of the four Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) Military Afloat Reach & Sustainability (MARS) tankers currently under construction by Daewoo Shipbuilding in South Korea. The contract, which covers an integrated PA system, is part of a wide range of communication equipment ordered from Finmeccanica – Selex ES.

World's First Hybrid Ferries to be Supplied with SES Equipment

These will be the world’s first hybrid diesel electric Ro Ro vehicle and passenger ferries to enter service and will be operating the Clyde and Hebrides Ferry Service from spring 2013. The green technology will be incorporated throughout the ships, supplying a minimum of 20% of the energy consumed on board. SES will be fitting a full specification of electronics on the hybrid ferries including Furuno Radars and Transas ECDIS. PFI Marine Electric in Dutch Harbor Year Round

Pacific Fishermen Shipyard and Electric, LLC (PFI Marine Electric) announced that it will now be providing year round marine electrical services in Dutch Harbor, Alaska, as well as the Puget Sound area, maintaining marine electricians on site 24/7. Seattle’s PFI Marine Electric shares facilities with Dutch Harbor’s Lunde Marine Electronics to provide marine electrical services in Alaska along with Lunde Marine’s electronic services. The PFI Marine Electrical service will now be expanded to year-round, 24/7 coverage of not only season openers, but now for off season repair periods as well. Operations will expand at the store and shop facilities shared by the two independent companies at 1558 East Point Road in Dutch Harbor.

Drew Offers Electronic Steam System Monitoring

A new PC-based software from the Drew Marine Division of Ashland Specialty Chemical Company, monitors steam generating water treatment tests and recommends action for out-of-range results. The software, called Drew Watch Electronic Services, is the first electronic steam system monitoring software in the marine industry. It eliminates hand compilation of paper logs by automatically generating color histograms, and allows data to be sent electronically from the ship to Drew technical centers, as well as to ship management, for in-depth review and further recommendations.
