Galveston Port, RCL to Develop Cruise Terminal

Miami-based cruise company Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. (RCL) will kick off construction of a third cruise terminal at the Port of Galveston in Texas next year.Both companies have approved a lease agreement to build a third cruise terminal at Pier 10 in Galveston with $100 million in construction cost.Through the public-private partnership, RCL will build the terminal, then lease it from the port for an initial term of 20 years, with four 10-year extension options.The two-story terminal will have a footprint of approximately 170,000 square feet on 10 acres in the eastern section of the Pier 10. Construction is expected to begin in April 2020.Anticipated to open in fall 2021…

Carnival to Expand Terminal F at PortMiami

Carnival Cruise Line expressed appreciation today to the Miami-Dade County Commission for approving a proposal for a complete renovation and major expansion of Cruise Terminal F at PortMiami that will be capable of supporting the operations of Carnival's new Excel class ship – clearing the way for the yet-to-be-named sister ship of Mardi Gras to be homeported in Miami when it is delivered in 2022."With today's approval, we will move quickly on a plan to remodel and expand Terminal F so that it will accommodate the most innovative class of ship to join our fleet," said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. GOST Security System thwarts Break-in

GOST (Global Ocean Security Technologies), announced that its GOST Insight HD GPS Security System was instrumental in foiling the theft of electronics onboard a powerboat in Aventura, Florida. On the morning of October 14, 2014, Scott Patterson received a text message at 6:18 a.m. from the security system on his boat stating, “Cockpit Motion” which included a link to a ten second video showing a perpetrator in the salon of his 52-foot Sea Ray Sundancer. Patterson immediately ran to the marina while police were dispatched. An alarm scared off the intruder, thwarting the potential theft of tens of thousands of dollars worth of electronics.

Transport Ministers Vow Crackdown on Terrorism, Piracy

By Steven L Herman, Auxiliary Public Information Officer, U.S. TOKYO - For the first time, ministers responsible for transportation security have made coordinated plans to prevent future terrorist attacks. Transportation ministers from 14 countries met in Tokyo (Jan. 12-13) and announced their unanimous commitment to greater international cooperation on transportation security and, in particular, to take all possible measures to thwart terrorism targeting public transport systems. Maritime security was high on the agenda of the first Ministerial Conference on International Transport Security and of particular focus were small cargo ships, fishing vessels, harbor tugs, and boats like the one used to launch the October 20, 2000 attack on the USS Cole in Yemen.
