Berg Partners with Yaskawa in Electric Propulsion Drive

Berg Propulsion has signed a key supplier and cooperation agreement to provide systems integration capability for Yaskawa Environmental Energy / The Switch permanent magnet (PM) and power electronics products. The cooperation creates a new and combined force offering the robustness and efficiency of propulsion systems where electric motors directly drive the propeller shaft, consolidating Berg’s growing presence in electric propulsion.“This is the latest step in Berg’s strategy to become a fully-fledged electrical propulsion systems integrator,” said Stefan Sedersten, CEO, Berg Propulsion.

Rolls-Royce's Power Systems Profitable Despite 17% Revenue Plunge

Rolls-Royce's Power Systems division has ended the 2020 financial year with an underlying operating profit of $247.3 million despite suffering a 17% drop in underlying revenue to $3.8 billion. This corresponds to an underlying operating margin of 6.5% (2019: 11.5%). Aker Solutions, Cognite Win $2M Grant for Floating Wind Farm Tech

California Energy Commission has awarded Aker Solutions and Cognite a $2 million grant for a project called NextWind Real-Time Condition Monitoring.The project is focused on next-generation solutions in wind through digitalization and aims to develop a holistic digital solution that will enable monitoring the condition of an offshore floating wind farm and its impact on the environment via live data streaming.Aker Solutions, partnering with Cognite, was selected for the grant award as part of the California Energy Commission's Electric Program Investment Charge (EPIC).

BAE Systems Wins Navy Contract

British multinational BAE Systems was awarded a pair of contracts worth $300 million that will support the Navy in digital endeavors.The first is a $212 million contract from the Navy’s Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division to integrate and sustain critical communications systems. NYK Celebrates O3 Challenge

The “Ocean of Opportunities Challenge”  (O3 Challenge), a worldwide contest aimed at creating new value through open innovation in the maritime industry, has been successfully celebrated by NYK Group.This was the second consecutive year for the challenge, which is planned and conducted by NYK Group companies Symphony Creative Solutions Pte. Wartsila Bags Energy Storage Contract from ContourGlobal

Wartsila has won a 6 MW energy storage project contract for the Caribbean island of Bonaire from ContourGlobal Bonaire, a subsidiary of London based ContourGlobal.The engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) hybrid energy project includes both the hardware, consisting of batteries and inverters, as well as GEMS, the energy management software from Greensmith Energy, a Wartsila company."The energy storage system will enable Bonaire, part of the Netherlands Antilles, to increase its use of renewable energy such as wind and solar. Wison Launches Floating LNG Power Plant Solutions

Northern Lights, HUG Engineering Partner on Clean Power

Marine generator sets manufacturer Northern Lights, Inc. (NLI) has formed a partnership with exhaust after-treatment equipment manufacturer HUG Engineering to provide complete IMO III certified clean air power generation solutions. The new partnership will allow customers to purchase Northern Lights’ line of marine generator sets and HUG’s selective catalytic NOx reduction (SCR) systems or particle filter (DPF) systems as one completely integrated solution. This engineered solution is fully IMO III Certified and meets the stringent performance and packaging requirements of the maritime industry. Ideal for the superyacht market, the SCR / DPF is available for Northern Lights units above 115kWe installed on vessels over 500 gross register tonnage.

Tokyo-based shipping line NYK Group (Nippon Yusen Kaisha) has decided to establish a new company, Symphony Creative Solutions (SCS) in Singapore, to develop and market new solutions in the shipping and logistics fields. Wärtsilä's' New Plant in Brazil

Wärtsilä's first unit at Porto do Açu in São João da Barra (RJ), Brazil, is today being inaugurated. This will be the first assembly plant and production unit for generator sets and azimuth thrusters in Brazil for Wärtsilä, the global leader in providing power generation solutions and services for ships and power plants. Harris Secures Certification for its Multi-channel Manpack Radio

Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS) has received Type-1 National Security Agency (NSA) certification for its Falcon III® RF-340M multi-channel manpack radio. The certification enables Harris to field the radios for secure voice and data communications up through the Top Secret level of information assurance. The RF-340M multi-channel manpack is the first and only commercially developed radio to achieve Type-1 certification in anticipation of the U.S. Army's Handheld, Manpack and Small-Form Factor (HMS) tactical radio program. IESA Selects Intergraph Solutions to Build Up to Eight Floating, Production, Storage and Offloading Vessels; Sisgraph to provide major Brazilian engineering and construction company with training and support for project. Brazilian engineering company IESA has selected Intergraph SmartMarine and SmartPlant Enterprise solutions, provided by Sisgraph, as part of a project with Petrobras, one of the world's largest energy companies. IESA will supply Petrobras with 24 compression modules for six identical floating, production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessels, with an option for delivery of eight modules to the other two FPSOs. Wärtsilä Records High Demand in LNG Sector

Demand for Wärtsilä's ship power solutions for LNG carriers and offshore applications continued to be exceptionally high during May and June. In the offshore market, Wärtsilä continued to be favoured as the supplier of diesel generating sets for drill ships. During May and June, Wärtsilä received orders from an undisclosed Korean shipyard to supply 24 Wärtsilä 32 diesel generating sets. These diesel generating sets will power four drill ships. The deliveries will take place from 2008 onwards. In the LNG carrier market, Wärtsilä continued to profit from its pioneering work during the past few years in facilitating an industry change from traditionally-applied steam turbine machinery to alternative propulsion and power generation solutions featuring dual-fuel engines.
