Hybrid Patrol Boat Launched at Port of Rotterdam

A new hybrid patrol vessel has entered into service last week at the Port of Rotterdam. The new 25-meter vessel, the RPA 8, can run on both diesel and diesel-electric, and causes less vessel wake and is much more efficient than other Port Authority vessels. RPA 8 was built by Kooiman Group in Zwijndrecht to replace the RPA 3, which had reached the end of its technical and economic service life. Battery Hybrid Patrol Boat under Development

PBES and NORIS Automation GmbH have partnered on the hybrid drive systems for Europe’s first battery hybrid patrol vessel. The 45m long vessel is being built at Baltic Workboats Shipyard in Estonia and will be delivered with 273kWh of PBES Power 65 battery modules. “PBES batteries provide hours of low speed propulsion with reduced sound and heat signature as well as greatly increased efficiency,” said Brent Perry, PBES Chief Executive Officer. “The vessel is first of many that we will be seeing in law enforcement.

Damen Supplies Hybrid Patrol Vessel to Waternet

Damen Shipyards Hardinxveld-Giessendam recently delivered the Damen Patrol Vessel 1304 Hybrid, designed and constructed for Waternet (the Water Network Foundation). The most striking features of this hybrid patrol vessel are that it is clean, quiet, and can sail under Amsterdam’s bridges along the through routes. The “Waterspreeuw” – meaning “Dipper” in English – was ceremonially named by the Amsterdam Executive Councillor CarolienGehrels on June 17, 2013. Waternet is an innovative water organization that takes the entire water cycle as its basis.
