Alaskan Cruises a Success
American Cruise Lines announce that its inaugural season in Alaska aboard the American Spirit has begun, with its opening 11-night Seattle-to-Juneau cruise having just been successfully completed. Weekly roundtrip cruises from Juneau will now run through early September. Featuring a complimentary shore tour package and pre-cruise hotel stay, the seven-night 'Alaska Inside Passage' roundtrip cruises depart from and return to Juneau. Ports of call include Glacier Bay, Icy Strait/Hoonah, Skagway, Petersburg and Tracy Arm.
Report on 2007 Passenger Cessel Grounding
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) released its full report on the grounding of a passenger vessel at the intersection of Lynn Canal and icy Strait in Southeast Alaska on May 14, 2007. Factors leading to this casualty included the master’s decision to put an inexperienced third mate on watch without supervision or guidance and poor watchkeeping procedures.
