NYK Gains ISO Certification for Crew Transfer Vessel SMS

On August 17, NYK received ISO9001:20151 certification from ClassNK for its activities to promote the safe operation of its crew transfer vessel (CTV) in the offshore wind industry.In addition to the safety management system (SMS) set up by the ship-management company, NYK will implement NAV90004 activities that promote safe navigation based on NYK’s own safety standard, NAV9000, which has been certified by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), to achieve an even higher level of quality control and safer navigation.

New Pumps Line for Firefighting at Sea

Australian Pump Industries has released a new range of high pressure motor pumps designed specifically for firefighting at sea. “No new fishing vessel has been (added) during the period,” says the email we get from Japan’s largest seafood company, Maruha Nichiro Corp. A year earlier, they had bought shares in New Zealand outfit, Sanford, which had just chartered a Nordic-looking vessel. Seafood rival, Nissui, had just done the same, buying New Zealand and Nordic. That all happened after the Naval Architect’s Society of Japan said a vessel based on the Icelandic design of Reykjavik’s Navis was its Ship of the Year.

Eos Risk Management Certified to Protect Cypriot Fleets

Security consultancy Eos Risk Management has been certified by The Republic of Cyprus for the provision of security services for vessels registered with its flag administration. The Cypriot Ministry of Transport Communications and Work awarded certified status to Eos Risk Management Limited as an approved Private Ship Security Company on December 4, 2015, via the Department of Merchant Shipping (DMS), (Against Acts of Piracy and Other Unlawful Acts Law (2012) – (Law 77(i) of 2012). The Cypriot Register is the 10th largest merchant fleet in the world and an important voice within merchant marine, with many leading shipping companies maintaining Cypriot offices.

First Subsea Achieves API 17L1 Certification for Bend Stiffener Connectors

Connector technology developer First Subsea has received APL 17LI certification for its bend stiffener connectors from the American Petroleum Institute, the company announced today. The bend stiffener connectors are used for flexible riser and umbilicals and offshore wind cable connections and are now certified as Load Transfer Devices under the API's specification for flexible pipe ancillary equipment. First Subsea’s bend stiffener connectors use ball and taper technology to provide a powerful grip for connections to I/J tubes, and for offshore wind.

XPD8 Seals Ghana FPSO Contract

Asset integrity management specialist XPD8 Solutions said it has continued its recent success in West Africa for work off the coast of Ghana. Over an 18-month period, the company will develop the maintenance program and inventory data for MODEC’s TEN MV25 floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel, operated on behalf of Tullow Oil. XPD8 is a company in maintenance engineering, condition monitoring and integrity services for the oil and gas sector. The company’s international reach has grown over the past 12 months to cover Europe, South East Asia and Africa.

Shaw Joins Capilano Maritime Design

Capilano Maritime Design Ltd., a naval architecture design firm based in North Vancouver, BC, Canada, announced that John Shaw has joined the firm as Manager of Engineering. For the last six years, John was employed at Seaspan Shipyards where he played a role in the shipyard’s successful bid for a $2.6 billion contract for the construction of several non‐combat ships for the Government of Canada. Damen Shiprepair Brest Earns ISO9001:2008 Certificate

Damen Shiprepair Brest (France) received certification from Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance (LRQA) for aligning its quality and safety management systems with internationally recognized standards. A certificate of approval for the ISO 9001:2008, management standards was presented by LRQA France at the shipyard premises on 26 November 2013. Damen Brest’sManaging Director Jos Goris commented, “We are proud to be awarded with the certificate, in particular since we started this process 11 months ago and only a couple of months after the shiprepair activities started in second quarter of 2012.

Incat Crowther announced the opening of an office in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, created to meet the growing demand for Incat Crowther’s products and services in South America while placing Incat Crowther at the center of the South American Offshore Oilfield industry. Drydocks World Receives API Spec Q1 Certification

GoAGT Training Center Achieves DNV Accreditation

Maritime security company GoAGT Ltd. achieved Det Norske Veritas (DNV) accreditation for its Maritime Training Center located in Galle, Sri-Lanka. The center, one of the first to be accredited globally, can train up to 20 personnel at any one time in a variety of maritime security disciplines including Use of Force and Medical Training. GoAGT has been delivering in-house training at the centre to its deployed teams since 2010, maintaining its role as an innovative market leader. The GoAGT Training Center will be running its pilot MSO course later this month. The new level 3 City and Guilds qualification is set to become a core requirement for compliance with the new industry standard for armed maritime security provision, ISO/PAS 28007.

Evergreen Seafarer Training Center (ESTC) earns ClassNK certification for its training courses. Classification society ClassNK announced that it has certified the Bridge Resource Management (BRM), Electronic Chart Display Information Systems (ECDIS) and Engine-room Resource Management (ERM) training courses offered by the Evergreen Seafarer Training Center (ESTC). ESTC boasts one of the world’s most sophisticated maritime training centers and has provided training for Taiwanese and foreign seafarers who serve on Evergreen’s fleet of some 100 vessels.

Leading class society ClassNK announced that it has certified the Bridge Resource Management (BRM), Electronic Chart Display Information Systems (ECDIS) and Engine-room Resource Management (ERM) training courses offered by the Evergreen Seafarer Training Center (ESTC). The new certification confirms that the training programs meet the requirements of ClassNK standards, IMO model course requirements and the STCW Code. The official certificate was presented to Evergreen Marine Corp. (Taiwan) Ltd.

Chinese Shipping Agency Forms Canadian Subsidiary

Sino-Global Shipping America, Ltd. establishes Sino-Global Shipping Canada Inc., to provide ship services in Canadian ports. Metal Action Machining Ltd. Certified to AS9100

Metal Action Machining Ltd. (the CNC Division of Analytic Systems) has announced that they have been certified to the International Standards Organization (Certificate number AS-1197), Aerospace AS9100 Quality Management System. On the heels of being certified to ISO9001-2008 one year ago, Metal Action decided to upgrade to the Aerospace Certification. This will allow Metal Action to obtain new aerospace contracts for the likes of AVCORP, ASCO, Boeing, Bombardier, etc, as well as to assist in the potential work for the (NSP) National Ship Procurement project with Seaspan Marine. Mr Maarten Jongen has officially been appointed Managing Director of Damen Shipyards Singapore (DSSi) from March 2012. In his new role Mr Jongen will focus on marketing, services and further improving efficiency at the yard that has been building (aluminium) Damen vessels since 2000. DSSi has been part of the Damen Shipyards Group since 2000. Mr Jongen originally joined Damen in 2002 straight from Delft University of Technology (The Netherlands) where he studied Naval Architecture and Marine Technology.

Acquisition of “Famaba” by E-Crane/Indusign.

Acquisition of 100% of the shares of the Polish Steel Construction company “Famaba” by the Belgian harbor crane manufacturer E-Crane/Indusign. The E-Crane Group of Companies, a leading manufacturer of cranes for handling bulk materials, has succeeded in the acquisition of the Polish company ‘Famaba’, an ISO9001 certified company with 275 employees and revenues exceeding 20 million USD/16 million EURO in the year 2011.
