We caught up with Steinar Nerbovik, President & CEO, Philly Shipyard for insights on the deal.While many companies globally fight to stay in business through the COVID-19 pandemic, Philly Shipyard received a huge deal late last month: the contract to build up to five NSMV ships, a contract that has been one of the most closely watched and hotly contested U.S. shipbuilding deals in recent memory.

Crowley Christens New Ocean Class Tugboat

As part of the company's new vessel build program, Crowley Maritime Corp. christened the latest of its four tugboats in the ocean class series, Ocean Sun, today in Lake Charles. The ceremony served to formally welcome the fourth dynamic positioning 2 (DP2) tugboat to the company’s expanded ocean towing fleet, which has been involved in most of the major offshore oil production installations in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico over the past 18 months. Todd Busch, senior vice president and general manager of Crowley’s solutions group, opened the ceremony to approximately 80 guests.

Container Shipping Line Wins Service & Reliability Award

Horizon Lines, Inc., one of the nation's leading domestic ocean shipping companies, has been awarded the "2011 Platinum Carrier Award" by home improvement retailer Lowe's Companies Inc. Horizon Lines is the only Jones Act ocean carrier to receive a 2011 award from Lowe's for domestic ocean transportation service. The 2011 award marks the sixth consecutive year that Horizon Lines has received Lowe's Platinum Carrier Award, and the 11th consecutive year that Horizon Lines has been honored with a Lowe's award for providing consistently superior service.
