FMC Establishes Regulatory Reform Task Force

Acting Chairman of the U.S. Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) Michael A. Khouri has designated the agency’s Managing Director, Karen V. Gregory, to serve as Regulatory Reform Officer. Gregory will stand up a Regulatory Reform Task Force that will work to identify burdensome, unnecessary and outdated directives and recommend how they should be remedied. "Relief from regulatory requirements that have outlived their usefulness is one of the easiest contributions the Federal Maritime Commission can make to increased efficiencies and creating economic benefits," said Acting Chairman Khouri. The designation of a Regulatory Review Officer and establishing a Regulatory Reform Task Force is consistent with the intent of the Executive Order issued by President Donald J.

New Senior Staff Appointments at FMC

The retirement of veteran Federal Maritime Commission senior executive Mr. Vern W. Hill, who has served as the Managing Director of the agency since 2013, has set in motion staff changes in three key offices. In consultation with his fellow Commissioners, Chairman Mario Cordero has appointed Ms. Karen V. Gregory to serve as the Commission’s Managing Director and Mr. Peter J. King to serve as the Deputy Managing Director. In their most immediate previous positions Ms. Gregory was the Secretary of the Federal Maritime Commission, while Mr. King was the Director of the Bureau of Enforcement. Both are members of the Senior Executive Service. Ms. Gregory and Mr. King begin their new roles today, September 1, 2016.

FMC Extends Comment Period on P3 Vessel Sharing

The Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) is accepting further public comment on the P3 Network Vessel Sharing Agreement until midnight Friday, November 29, 2013. On October 24, 2013, A. P. Moller-Maersk A/S, CMA CGM S.A. and MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company, S.A. filed the P3 Network Vessel Sharing Agreement with FMC. The proposed agreement would authorize the applicants to share vessels and engage in related cooperative operating activities in the trades between Asia, North Europe, and the Mediterranean on the one hand and the U.S. on the other hand. If the FMC takes no action to seek an injunction or to require additional information, the agreement will become effective on Sunday, December 8, 2013.
