Maersk Names First Large Methanol-Enabled Vessel

The world’s first large methanol-enabled container ship has been named Ane Mærsk at a ceremony in the shipyard of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries in Ulsan, South Korea.The 16,000 TEU vessel is named after Ane Mærsk Mc-Kinney Uggla, the Chair of the A.P. Moller Foundation and A.P. Moller Holding. Ane’s eldest granddaughter served as godmother, and christened the vessel by breaking a champagne bottle over the bow.Ane Mærsk is the first of Maersk’s 18 large methanol-enabled vessels that will be delivered between 2024 and 2025.

Maersk to Split Into Two Divisions

It's oficial now. Danish conglomerate A.P. Moeller-Maersk A/S said Thursday it is splitting into two separate units - transport and energy businesses. Denmark’s biggest company moves ahead with an historic shake-up of the conglomerate to generate growth, as it battles with the worst shipping downturn in years and a historic oil-price rout. The grandson of Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller, who transformed A.P. Moller-Maersk into an international conglomerate, was on Monday appointed chief executive of the holding company behind the Danish shipping giant. The move sends a signal that the Maersk family will remain an active owner of the listed company, but it also distances the heir from daily operations, analysts said. At its recent general meeting of AP Moller-Maersk, Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller's grandson Robert Maersk Uggla was elected to the board of the company, which will ensure the family's active ownership and continuity in the company, according to a report by Børsen with Maritime Denmark. Citing Robert Maersk Uggla the report indicates that he thinks it means a lot to the family. They wished to remain as an active owner of A. P. Moller-Maersk and he considered that that is what his grandfather would have wanted and his mother wants the same. Apparently he has worked in the company for 10 years.

First Triple-E named Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller

Maersk Line’s newest vessel, the first of the Triple-E series, was named this morning in a ceremony at the Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) shipyard in Okpo, South Korea. It bears the name of the late Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller, who passed away in April 2012 at the age of 98. Maersk Line CEO, Søren Skou, began the ceremony by welcoming all the special guests and recounting the important tradition of naming ceremonies in Maersk ever since the first event in 1906 welcomed Peter Mærsk as the second vessel in the fleet.

Maersk Names New Containership

On August 12, Odense Steel Shipyard presented its latest newbuilding, an 11,000 TEU container vessel, for the A.P. Moller - Maersk Group. Ane Mærsk Mc-Kinney Uggla, accompanied by her husband, Mr Peder Uggla, honoured A.P. Moller - Maersk and the Yard by naming the newbuilding Emma Maersk. The namegiving ceremony was attended by the company’s and the yard’s Boards of Directors as well as Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller. The newbuilding is named after Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller’s late wife, Emma, who passed away in December last year. Just as Emma Mc-Kinney Møller was a person others held in high regard, the vessel Emma Maersk will set its mark. As the world's largest container vessel it will set new standards for safety and environment.
