Louis Meyer Orders Damen’s Compact ASD Tug 2111

Neue Schleppdampfschiffsreederei Louis Meyer GmbH & Co. KG of Hamburg has placed an order with Damen Shipyards for the one of the first of its next generation ASD Tug 2111 class. The vessel will be operated on a long-term charter by Emder Schlepp-Betrieb GmbH (ESB) for operations in its home port of Emden, one of the top three ports in Europe for car shipping. Damen Christens New Tug for Louis Meyer

A naming ceremony was held at Damen Shipyards Gorinchem for the new tug Peter Wessels on August 14, just four months after the vessel was ordered by Hamburg-based Neue Schleppdampfschiffsreederei Louis Meyer GmbH & Co. KG (Louis Meyer).The accelerated delivery was made possible by Damen’s long-standing policy of both offering a wide range of standard designs that can then be customized to meet the exact needs of each customer, and of building for stock to guarantee fast deliveries.

New Damen ASD Tug 2411 for Port of Hamburg

Order takes total operating there to seven.Damen Shipyards Group has signed a contract with Neue Schleppdampfschiffsreederei Louis Meyer GmbH & CO. KG for the supply of an ASD Tug 2411, to be named JAN. The vessel was built for stock at Damen Shipyards Changde in China before being transported to the Netherlands. She will now undergo finishing at Damen Maaskant Shipyards Stellendam (Maaskant) and be delivered to her new owner in June 2019.JAN will operate primarily in the Port of Hamburg, as well as other German ports as required.

Damen Tugs Renew Towmar Baltic UAB fleet

Towage operator Towmar Baltic UAB recently renewed its fleet with two new Damen ASD Tugs 2810. The ship assistance and marine service company provides services to customers calling at the Port of Klaipeda (Lithuania) and the Port of Liepaja (Latvia) in the Baltic Sea region. TAK 10 and TAK 11 will operate in both ports. Managing Director of Towmar Baltic, Tomas Zabulionis, explains why the company chose Damen. “We have had a lot of experience with Damen tugs over the years. The most important reason Towmar Baltic ordered these tugs, is reliable performance," he said. "Our decision to contract Damen had to do with competitive pricing as well. And, of course, the company’s reputation, quality service and maintenance are other factors that played a major role in our decision.

Meyer Werft Wins AIDA Cruise Order

AIDA Cruises placed an approximate euro 630 million ordered for two club ships of a new generation from Papenburg, Germany-based shipyard Meyer Werft. The 68,500-gt, 817 ft. ships will be designed and built to offer 2,030 guests a unique experience, as they are designed to permit a wide range of additional attractions in the areas of entertainment, dining, spa and sport. “With these ships we are progressing our successful AIDA concept,” said Michael Thamm, President of AIDA Cruises.
