Coronavirus Disrupts Global Container Shipping

China's fast-spreading coronavirus is throwing the global container shipping trade out of sync, with lines re-routing cargoes and reducing calls to Chinese ports, setting the scene for months of delivery delays ahead, industry sources said.The spread of the deadly virus has shut down cities and factories in China and disrupted global air travel.China's decision to extend its Lunar New Year holiday period until Feb. 10 has compounded logistical complications, despite its ports staying open.

CMA CGM Adds Buchanan Port Call, Liberia

The CMA CGM Group announce the addition, on its PC north service, of a new direct call in Buchanan (Liberia), located 100km south of Monrovia, thus expanding its service opportunities in Africa and becoming the only shipping line calling Buchanan in 20 years. This new call primarily responds to the needs for the export cargo of wood, rubber, palm oil and minerals produced in the area of Buchanan. The CMA CGM Group will also serve Buchanan for import from worldwide on CMA CGM long haul services through the Tangiers hub. A service operating four vessels of 1,600 TEUs.

New CMA CGM Middle East to Somalia Service

CMA CGM announced the launch of the direct service Noura Express from Middle East to Somalia. The service will connect at Khor Fakkan with CMA CGM long haul services from / to worldwide to reach Mogadishu, Somalia. The Noura Express will start as of January 29, 2014, with M/V CMA CGM Kailas voyage DB227R, deploying 1,854 TEU capacity with 21-day frequency. Noura Express full rotation is as follows: Jebel Ali (day one) – Khor Fakkan (day two) – Salalah (day three) – Mogadishu (day six) – Jebel Ali. cma-cgm.com

CMA CGM Rearranges its Services

The CMA CGM Group announced the reshuffling of its services from Europe and Med to West Africa which will allow the Group to adapt to the market and serve the heart of Africa by Through Bill of lading (TBL) to land lock countries. CMA CGM is pleased to announce the PC Weekly service improvement with the insertion of UK and Nigeria call in the rotation. The first voyage will start on December 14, 2013 with M/V Hammonia Antofagasta vge 8D001S. The first voyage will commence on December 13, 2013 with M/V Spero vge 8E001S.

CMA CGM Takes Action for Japan

Following the earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan, CMA CGM has taken action to support its teams on site and help in the delivery of emergency assistance. CMA CGM Group has set up an Emergency and Communication Response Team that is closely monitoring the situation, keeps in close contact with the Group’s teams in Japan and ensures business continuity. All employees of CMA CGM offices on site are safe and none of the Group’s ships were impacted. Wang: Container Market Strength to Continue
