New Power for Alaskan Classic

Thousands of people travel Alaska on mega-cruise ships each year, but only a handful get to cruise Alaskan waters on the immaculate M/V LISERON. Built in Seattle in 1952 by the US Navy as a minesweeper she was sold to France, but returned to Seattle in 1990 after being lovingly converted to yacht-class in Florida.The late Michael Allan McIntosh, philanthropist and environmentalist, founded The Boat Company in 1979, initially as a program of The McIntosh Foundation. Eastern Delivers Factory Trawler to O’Hara

Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. delivered the DNV classed factory processor fishing trawler F/T Araho (Hull 175) on January 28, 2017 to the O’Hara Corporation of Rockland, Maine. She is the first U.S. flag freezer processor factory trawler constructed in over 25 years. The F/T Araho will be in service in the waters of Alaska. The O’Hara family and Eastern Shipbuilding are no strangers to each other. The F/T Araho is the sixth fishing vessel Eastern has built for the O’Hara family over the last 20 years. This factory processor fishing trawler is far more sophisticated than the prior five vessels. The O’Hara and D’Isernia families go back to the early 1990s with the F/V Enterprise a Catcher Processor Conversion delivered in 1996.

Arctic Prowler to be Christened Oct. 5

Alaska Longline, LLC, and Alaska Ship & Drydock (ASD) will christen the F/V Arctic Prowler on Oct. 5, 2013. The ceremony for the new 136 ft. freezer longliner will be held at the Ketchikan Shipyard in Ketchikan, Alaska. F/V Arctic Prowler, the first large commercial fishing vessel to be built in Alaska, is an Ocean going Factory Longliner, capable of processing and storing catch aboard. The vessel is to be Load Lined and classed by Det Norske Veritas (DNV) and will be U.S. flagged. The design shall comply with all applicable U.S. Coast Guard and Class Society stability requirements.

St. Johns Ship Building Delivers Sea Strength

St. Johns Ship Building of Palatka, Fla. delivered the offshore service vessel (OSV) Sea Strength to A. R. Singh Contractors of Point Fortin, Trinidad.  The 157-ft vessel is currently undergoing owner inspections and is available for work in the Caribbean offshore market. It operates a fleet of approximately 20 vessels including tugs, barges, crewboats and supply boats. Sea Strength Particulars: L.O.A.    157 ft. Beam (Molded)    38 ft. Depth (Molded)    11.5 ft. St. Johns Ship Building Launches OSV

St. Johns Ship Building Launches 157’ OSV for Caribbean Market. St. Johns Ship Building of Palatka, Fla. launched the Sea Strength, a 157’ offshore service vessel (OSV) for A. R. Singh Contractors Ltd. The vessel will be the largest in the A. R. Singh Contractors Ltd. fleet and will expand the company’s reach into the Caribbean offshore market. The Sea Strength is expected to be delivered February 2012. The Sea Strength is a twin screw vessel powered by two Caterpillar C32 marine type engines rated at 850 horsepower each at 1,800 RPM with Twin Disc reverse-reduction gears.

Eco-Friendly Ocean Motor Yacht Design

Designers Ken Freivokh, responsible for the Maltese Falcon; and Pat Bray, responsible for a fuel efficient, semi-displacement hull form, presented their latest project, an environmentally sound 137-ft motor yacht design. Through the use of hybrid diesel/electric technology this vessel can operate for up to five hours on battery power alone, quietly slipping through the water at six knots. A 4,000 mile range at 14 knots is achieved with this low wake, low carbon footprint hull form.
