Wärtsilä, CSSC Ink BWMS Manufacturing Deal

Wärtsilä has signed a manufacturing license agreement with Jiujiang Precision Measuring Technology Research Institute, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), based in Jiujiang, China. The two-way agreement provides CSSC with access to technology and the rights to manufacture the Wärtsilä Aquarius EC Ballast Water Management System (BWMS) under license for applications to CSSC customers. In return, Wärtsilä gains access to CSSC's new manufacturing facility, thereby further supporting supply and demand needs for the Wärtsilä BWMS direct to Wärtsilä customers. The agreement was signed in Jiujiang on 5th December 2016 and is implemented with immediate effect.

Wärtsilä, COSCO Ink BWMS License Agreement

Wärtsilä has signed a manufacturing license agreement with COSCO (Weihai) Shipbuilding Marine Technology Company Limited (WECOSCO) based in Weihai, China. The two-way agreement provides COSCO with access to technology and the rights to manufacture the Wärtsilä Aquarius Electro Chlorination (EC) Ballast Water Management System (BWMS) under license for application in its global marine market. In return, Wärtsilä gains access to an additional manufacturing facility able to assist with supply and demand of the Wärtsilä BWMS direct to Wärtsilä customers.

New Brazilian Navy Ship Leaves U.K.

The newest ship in the Brazilian Navy’s fleet departed the U.K. on a journey of more than 10,000 miles to Brazil. Araguari is the third of three Amazonas Class ocean patrol vessels delivered to the Brazilian Navy by BAE Systems. She is designed for maritime security, as well as being able to support humanitarian relief and search-and-rescue operations. Her two sister ships, Amazonas and APA, were delivered by BAE Systems last year and have already begun operations in Brazil. They have recently played an important role in the security operation for the visit to Brazil by Pope Francis.

Brazil Takes Delivery of Third Ocean Patrol Vessel

Araguari, the third of three Ocean Patrol Vessels built by BAE Systems, was handed over to the Brazilian Navy in a ceremony at Portsmouth Naval Base. Employees joined guests from the Brazilian Navy and U.K. Royal Navy, to watch as members of the ship’s company raised the ensign for the first time, formally marking the handover of the Brazilian Navy’s newest vessel. First of class, Amazonas, was handed over to the Brazilian Navy in June 2012. The second ship, APA, was completed in November of last year.

New Brazilian Warship Departs the U.K.

The latest addition to the Brazilian Navy’s fleet departed the UK in the snow for her new home in Rio de Janeiro where she will strengthen Brazil’s maritime security. Apa is the second of three Amazonas Class Ocean Patrol Vessels being delivered to the Brazilian Navy by BAE Systems. Her sister ship, Amazonas, completed the crossing last year, while the final ship, Araguari, will be handed over in June. BAE Systems employees and the Brazilian Navy support team, who are working in partnership to deliver the class of ships, gathered on the dockside at HM Naval Base Portsmouth where she departed.

Kawasaki Celebrates Century in Power

Japanese licensee marks milestone in diesel engine manufacture Kawasaki Heavy Industry (KHI) has celebrated the 100th anniversary of its engine-manufacturing license with MAN Diesel & Turbo. Spread over four days, the celebrations were capped with a technical event in Kobe featuring over 140 attendees. Dr Stephan Timmermann, member of MAN Diesel & Turbo’s Executive Board, spoke of the special relationship between his company and its longest prevailing licensee. Dr Timmermann pointed to the uniqueness of the cooperation in the world of licensing, due to other such often developing in different directions, or that technology losing relevance.
