MARAD Awards $19.6 Million in Small Shipyard Grants

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration (MARAD) announced $19.6 million in grant awards to 24 small shipyards in 19 states through the Small Shipyard Grant Program.The funds will help awardees—many of which being family-run businesses—modernize, increase productivity and expand local employment opportunities while competing in the global marketplace, MARAD said.“Small businesses are the lifeblood of the American economy, and small shipyards play a critical role in America’s maritime industry, helping us get the goods we depend on every day,” said U.S.

A recent dry dock rehab project in Chicago provides new options and money saving opportunities for inland and Great Lakes stakeholders alike.From software to steel plating, Indiana-based TPG Marine Enterprises provides a range of services in the Great Lakes and inland waterways markets. River based tug and barge services are based in Jeffersonville and Mt. Vernon, IN, on the Ohio River, as well as on Kentucky’s Green River. The company also owns TPG Chicago Dry Dock, located on the Calumet River.

TPG Founders Acquire 100% Ownership

Indiana based maritime logistics company TPG Marine Enterprises, LLC said it has purchased 100 percent ownership of its primary operating company TPG Mt. Vernon Marine, LLC, which provides harbor services on the lower Ohio River under the names of Mt. Vernon Barge Service, Green River Barge Service and MVBS Jeffersonville, LLC. It also owns TPG Chicago Dry Dock, LLC, located on the Calumet River. Prior to the purchase at the end of September, TPG Marine Enterprises held majority ownership of TPG Mt.

Simrad, Patti Marine Partner on Vessel Bridge Suite

Simrad Commercial, in partnership with Patti Marine Enterprises, has announced the latest vessel commissioned for the Truex clamming fleet is outfitted with a complete suite of Simrad Commercial marine electronics. Seawatcher II, a 152-foot clamming vessel, features two Simrad NSO evo2 processors driving five 18.5-inch monitors, an AP70 Autopilot, Halo-4 and Halo-6 Pulse Compression Radar systems and two SonarHub sonar processing systems. The design of the Seawatcher  II is based on an original concept developed in partnership with the Truex family in 2003.

Coalition Urges Congress to Address Asian Carp in the Great Lakes

A coalition of maritime business and industry organizations sent a letter to key Members of Congress on Friday, March 24 urging funding for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) to further support efforts undertaken by the State of Illinois to slow, stop and reverse the migration of Asian carp, an aquatic invasive species, through cost-effective measures. Fishing Vessel Repurposed Following Conversion

A 170-foot long, 40-foot wide fishing vessel, now named Defender, recently underwent a significant conversion to become the first fish pumping vessel in the Global Seas and Patti Marine Enterprises Inc fleet. TPG Marine Acquires Chicago Dry Dock

Indiana-based TPG Mt. Vernon Marine, LLC purchased Chicago Dry Dock, a Chicago area shipyard founded in 1979. Chicago Dry Dock operates on the Calumet River and offers unencumbered access to both the Great Lakes (via Lake Michigan) and the Inland River System (via the Calumet/Des Plaines/Illinois Rivers). Founded as Kern Barge Cleaning and Repair, CDD purchased its first dry dock in 1995 and was renamed and incorporated as Chicago Dry Dock in 1996. Two Ramparts Class Tugs for Signet Maritime

In the summer of this year, Signet Maritime took delivery of Signet Arcturus & Signet Polaris, the eighth and ninth tugs designed for them by Robert Allan Ltd. of Vancouver, Canada to add to its fleet of 37 conventional and ASD vessels. The tugs were constructed at Patti Marine Enterprises in Pensacola, Florida. The tugs are based on the Signet Weatherly design, but with additional power and higher bollard pull. The vessels are intended for multidisciplinary work including offshore support, towing, ship-assist, ship escort, subsea and rig moves.

Signet Maritime Acquires State-of-the-art Tractor Tug

Adding to its fleet of 37 conventional and ASD vessels, Signet Maritime Corporation took ownership of its ninth newly constructed tractor tug in six years. SIGNET ARCTURUS, a 105’ x 38’ Z-Drive, designed by Robert Allan Ltd. of Vancouver, British Columbia was delivered by Patti Marine Enterprises of Pensacola, Florida on May 25, 2014. SIGNET ARCTURUS is powered by two Caterpillar model C175-16 main engines, each rated 3417 BHP at 1800 RPM. The engines are coupled to two Rolls-Royce US 255 CP azimuth thrusters via carbon fiber shafting, providing thrust for ABS certified sustained bollard pull of 83.45 metric tonnes. All Caterpillar mains and John Deere 6068TFM76 generator engines aboard the vessel are U.S. EPA Tier 3 certified for reduced emissions. Joseph W.

Plymouth, UK, Maritime Development Land Deal Signed

The deal is described by the British Government as a once-in-a-generation opportunity to expand the region’s marine and advanced manufacturing industries by freeing up land at the South Yard in Devonport Naval Base. It will enable marine companies to grow their operations, the relocation of supply chain companies to the region and the creation of new marine enterprises. The City Deal is intended to reinvigorate the region’s marine and advanced manufacturing sectors, creating over 9,000 jobs.

China's Pingtan Sells Subsidiary Companies to Chairman

Nasdaq-listed Pingtan Marine Enterprise Ltd. (PME) is to sell its 100% owned dredging subsidiary, China Dredging Group  and its PRC operating subsidiaries, Fujian Xing Gang Port Service Co., Ltd. business and operating assets to an affiliate of the Company's Chairman, CEO and majority shareholder Mr. Xinrong Zhuo. In addition to the fairness opinion on the proposed transaction from Duff and Phelps, LLC, the Board received appraisal reports from BMI Appraisals Limited for the respective operating rights and licenses to conduct fishing services of 20 new vessels which are included as part of transaction consideration. The Board, excluding Chairman and CEO Mr. Xinrong Zhuo, and the Company's Senior Officer, Mr. Bin Lin, unanimously approved moving forward with the transaction.

Dredging and Ocean Fishing listed firm Pingtan Marine Enterprise Ltd. (Nasdaq: PME) confirms its continued listing & compliance with all quantitative listing requirements. US-based Jensen Maritime, completes a major redesign of the Global Sea-managed fishing vessel 'Bering Defender'. The project, which improved the vessel’s efficiency and hold capacity, outfitted it for pollock fishing in the challenging waters of Alaska’s Bering Sea. The refurbished fishing boat, formerly named Dona Martita, recently arrived in Seattle after departing the East Coast and transiting the Panama Canal. Holland America Line receives second Benkert Award for its marine environmental initiatives as U.S. At a recent ceremony, Holland America Line was presented a gold 2012 Rear Admiral William M. Jensen Maritime-Designed Pushboat Delivered

The Jensen Maritime-designed river push boat, the M/V Stephenson II, has been delivered to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for use in Gascondale, MO, in the Corps' Kansas City district. Jensen performed the functional design and production lofting of the ABS Classed, 58-ft, 770-horsepower boat, which will provide operational support for the district's operations and maintenance mission on the lower Missouri River as well as for general construction and mitigation projects.
