'National Marine Technology Week' Date Set

Congressmen Farr and Young introduce a bi-partisan Congressional Resolution designating September 22, 2013 through September 28, 2013, as “National Marine Technology Week”. Resolution coincides with the 50th anniversary of the Marine Technology Society and OCEANS 2013 in San Diego. The Marine Technology Society is an international community of ocean engineers, technologists, policy-makers and educators that provides the ocean community with forums for the exchange of information and ideas through its peer-reviewed MTS Journal, conferences, newsletters and Web site (www.mtsociety.org).

Drew Michel Inducted into ADCI Diving Hall of Fame

Washington, D.C. – The Marine Technology Society (MTS) announced the induction of President‐Elect Drew Michel into the Association of Diving Contractors International (ADCI) Commercial Diving Hall of Fame. The event was held at the awards ceremony during the 20th Annual Underwater Intervention Conference, held earlier this year in New Orleans, La., and co‐sponsored by the MTS Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) Committee and ADCI. Drew was honored for his nearly 50‐year commitment to operational safety and effectiveness. The ADCI Commercial Diving Hall of Fame recognizes and honors the lifetime achievement of those individuals whose dedication and accomplishments have significantly contributed to commercial diving.

DHS Congratulates MTS

The Marine Technology Society was recently honored by the Department of Homeland Security with a letter identifying the content of its May/June 2011 issue of the MTS Journal as one of “paramount importance to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).” The MTS Journal focused its issue on maritime domain awareness and port resilience research and development. “I appreciate that MTS has showcased the research underway at the DHS Science & Technology Directorate (S&T) Center of Excellence (COE) for Maritime and Port Security. This COE’s work complements S&T’s other research and development efforts in support of the DHS components whose mission it is to secure our coasts and ports, particularly the United States Coast Guard and Customs and Border Protection.

"Ink" It In: WMTC a Must for Maritime Professionals

Mirroring the metamorphosis of the globalization of the marine industry and seeking to stake a leadership claim atop the marine technology information heap, the World Maritime Technology Conference & Exposition will bring together the world, both literally and figuratively, in San Francisco in late October. Set in historic San Francisco and scheduled for October 17-20, this meeting is being hosted by the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME) but as the "World" in its title belies, includes participation from around the globe, tapping the expertise of professional marine technical organizations from 11 countries.
