Maritime Technology Firms NAVTOR and Voyager Worldwide Set to Merge

NAVTOR, an e-Navigation and performance technology provider to the maritime industry, and Voyager Worldwide, a provider of maritime technology solutions, have agreed to merge.The combined company will deliver products and solutions to approximately 18,000 vessels globally. Development on BWM highlights - IMO's R&D Forum

Ballast water management experts, meeting at the recent IMO-GloBallast R&D Forum in Canada, have showcased the latest developments in ballast water management and highlighted the areas where further research is needed, in order to prevent the spread of potentially harmful species in ballast water. Some 140 participants from IMO Member States, academia, private sector, testing facilities and the maritime technology industry were meeting at the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in Montreal, Canada, for the 6th Global Environment Facility (GEF)-United Nations Development Program (UNDP)-IMO GloBallast R&D Forum and Exhibition on Ballast Water Management (16-18 March 2016), under the banner “Ballast Water Management Convention – moving towards implementation”.

PDMS Targets Maritime Industry with £1m Deal

Maritime software engineering specialists PDMS Ltd. have announced an agreement for its U.K. subsidiary, Professional Data Management Services (U.K.) Ltd., to acquire certain parts of the business and assets of Maxima Information Group Limited, a subsidiary company within the Castleton Technology group of companies. In a deal worth close to £1 million, the acquisition relates to the ERP, payroll software and ferry ticketing business. PDMS has been developing ICT systems and solutions for the public and private sector for more than 21 years…

SEA Europe Appoints New Secretary General

The European association for shipbuilding and marine equipment, SEA Europe, has appointed Mr Douwe Cunningham as the Secretary General at the occasion of their official launch party. Mr Cunningham the former Deputy Secretary succeeds with immediate effect Dr Reinhard Lüken who had announced his departure in May taking up the position as Managing Director of VSM, the German shipbuilding and ocean industries association. Mr Cunningham in his inaugural speech said of the association “2012 has given the maritime technology industry a united voice.

Shipbuilding: Encouraging Signs from European Institutions

A difficult year for Europe and likewise for the shipbuilding industry is ending with encouraging signals from European Institutions, which underline the importance of the sector and the respective understanding of policy makers. The Council, the Commission and the European Investment Bank have each concluded deliberations related to shipbuilding, much appreciated by the industry. The Council took note of a clear report by European Commission Vice President Tajani about the worrying business situation and short term prospects. A large number of Member States welcomed the initiative of the Commission and offered full support for the approach outlined.

Kongsberg's Fast Boat Simulator at Nor-Shipping Campus

The simulator is expected to attract a lot of attention, especially as Kongsberg Maritime is allowing visitors to try it out for themselves.

Konsgberg Maritime is shipping in its Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat (RHIB) Simulator for the inaugural Nor-Shipping Campus, a new event introduced to engage school and university students with the maritime industry.
