Clarkson Asia Appoint Maher to Head Drybulk Operations
Shipping services provider, Clarksons, say they have appointed long time Asia expert, Jonny Maher, as Head of Dry Cargo for the Asia-Pacific. Based in Singapore, he will head up Clarksons' drybulk operations in the region. The move, they say, is a response to both Clarksons' growing presence in the region and the huge growth in clients now operating out of Singapore. Jonny was previously Head of Asia for Arrow Shipbroking and has lived in the region for 18 years, the last seven of which in Singapore and previously in Tokyo, Hong Kong and Shanghai.
Any Future for North Sea Oil & Gas?
Mark Goodall of Aker Solutions believes there is a future for N.Sea oil & gas despite the present focus on wind and nuclear energy power. Goodall explained that the low hanging fruit may have gone but there are still several significant new field developments coming on stream with others still in the planning and pre-development phases. We are also seeing the redevelopment of some existing fields with new investment in facilities upgrades to extend the viable operating field life. The North Sea is classified as a mature oil and gas region, which has passed peak production, however, as technology improves, operating companies are able to extract a far higher percentage of hydrocarbon from the reservoirs than was ever thought possible in the early years.
Fendercare to Open Wind Turbine Support Base
On Thursday 19 July 2012, Norfolk-based Fendercare Marine will be hosting a launch event to officially open its Great Yarmouth offshore wind turbine support base. The company’s new facility on the Old Bure Marine site in Cobholm follows on from the success of its first base in Lyness, Orkney and will provide an extensive range of support services & equipment to the expanding offshore wind industry. The Great Yarmouth site, which cost in excess of £1million, includes a large set down and storage area as well as quay side frontage and office facilities.
