US FMC approves Miami Marine Terminal conference agreement

An agreement between two marine terminal companies located at the Port of Miami went into force yesterday, permitting those parties to seek cooperation and commonality in both business and operating matters. The Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) voted today not to prevent the "Miami Marine Terminal Conference Agreement" from taking effect. The South Florida Container Terminal and the Port of Miami Terminal Operating Company filed their agreement on November 16, 2016. An agreement between two marine terminal companies located at the Port of Miami will go into force on December 31, 2016, permitting those parties to seek cooperation and commonality in both business and operating matters. The U.S. Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) voted Thursday not to prevent the Miami Marine Terminal Conference Agreement from taking effect. The South Florida Container Terminal and the Port of Miami Terminal Operating Company filed the agreement on November 16, 2016.

Cargo and Cruise Industries Show Growth at Port of Miami

Newer and larger cruise ships homeported at the Dante B. Fascell Port of Miami-Dade helped the transportation hub retain its title as the Busiest Cruise Port in the World. Year-end statistics for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2001, show that passenger traffic at the Port of Miami was up .8 percent from last year with 3,391,091 people cruising the high seas. The cargo side of the business also experienced a boost with 8,247,004 tons moving through the port, representing a 5.7 increase. According to seaport director, Charles A. Towsley, the port’s figures indicate that the port is a steady force and major contributor to the economic well-being of the community.

Dubai Delegates Visit U.S. to Ease Ports Concern

According to reports, Dubai's royal family sent a delegation to the U.S. today to meet officials such as Senator Hillary Clinton to allay concerns about the emirate's purchase of six U.S. ports as part of its buyout of Peninsula & Oriental Steam Navigation Co. Sultan bin Sulayem, chairman of the state-owned DP World, is heading the team will discuss Dubai's management of P&O operations in the U.S., which include the ports of New York and Baltimore, official said. Democratic Senators Robert Menendez of New Jersey and Hillary Clinton of New York are seeking to prohibit companies owned or controlled by foreign governments from buying U.S. port operations. A bipartisan group of U.S.
