SMS Group Relocates

SMS Group said it is relocating its Southampton headquarters to become the only ship repairer based within the Port of Southampton.The business will move to Western Avenue, within ABP Southampton’s footprint adjacent the King George V drydock.The move represents a strategic decision to move the business closer to its core customer base, and at the same time improve its geographical location, says Ben Rowe and Dave Chaffers, who head SMS Southampton. Marine Fabrication Returns to Southampton

Marine engineering services firm SMS is midway through a contract for Woods’ Silver Fleet to build three huge pontoons for the Thames. Southampton Marine Services Delivers Svitzer Merlin

U.K. shipbuilder Southampton Marine Services said it has delivered a newly constructed 20.45-meter multipurpose harbor workboat to Svitzer. The new vessel, named Svitzer Merlin, is the forerunner in Southampton Marine Services’ new Bulldog workboats range. A Bulldog 20, the workboat is a repeat Svitzer order for Southampton Marine Services, being similar to the Middlesbrough-based Svitzer Leven. Svitzer Merlin takes her place in the Svitzer fleet being based at Milford Haven, performing general port collection work and recycling of waste from ships at the port.

Leco’s New Aquaculture Vessel Launched

Southampton Marine Services said it has launched its latest vessel, a new aquaculture service vessel for Leco Marine, at its Ocean Quay shipyard in Southampton. Designed by Argyll Maritime Design Services, the 23-meter vessel, Alyssa, is an aquaculture service vessel built for Scottish commercial diving and marine services company Leco Marine to perform general fish farm work. Ocean Safety Equips Latest Svitzer Workboat

The U.K.’s largest independent safety supplier Ocean Safety has delivered a full safety inventory to the new workboat for Svitzer UK, as part of their ongoing contract to supply and support the U.K. fleet. The new workboat Svitzer Leven is currently undergoing sea trials and will be based and operating on the Tees. The workboat, which will be used to collect marine wastage from ships calling at the port, has been manufactured in Southampton by Southampton Marine Services Ltd. at Ocean Quay.
