40 Years Protecting the Mediterranean

International Maritime Organization (IMO) joined celebrations marking four decades of cooperation in the Mediterranean to prevent and combat marine pollution from ships under the Regional Marine Pollution Emergency Response Centre for the Mediterranean Sea (REMPEC). Speaking at the REMPEC 40th Anniversary Conference during the Malta Maritime Summit (3-6 October), IMO Secretary-General Kitack Lim heralded REMPEC as a vitally important but often unsung player in the battle to protect one of the world's most sensitive and vulnerable marine assets. Lim also emphasized IMO’s pride in the role it played in helping to set up REMPEC – and of its continuing work in administering the Centre.

Arctech Launches Russian Icebreaking Rescue Vessel

Arctech launched the icebreaking multipurpose emergency and rescue vessel for the Russian Federal Agency of Sea and River Transport and to be operated by the FGI Gosmorspassluzhba (Russian Marine Emergency Rescue Service) on December 12, 2013 at Helsinki Shipyard. Icebreaking Rescue MPV Hull Assembly Begins in Helsinki

The hull assembly of an icebreaking multipurpose emergency and rescue vessel for Russian Ministry of Transport started June 28, 2013 at Arctech Helsinki Shipyard. The vessel will be used in icebreaking, rescue and oil combatting operations in the Gulf of Finland. The vessel being built at Helsinki shipyard represents a completely new type of technology. The vessel features an asymmetric hull, patented oblique design and three 360 degrees rotating propulsors, which allow the vessel to operate efficiently sideways, astern and ahead.

Arctech Helsinki Shipyard Delivered Icebreaking Offshore Vessel

NB-506 Vitus Bering

Arctic offshore vessel NB-506 Vitus Bering was delivered at Helsinki Shipyard on Friday 21.12.2012 to the client Sovcomflot, the largest shipping corporation in Russia. The vessel will supply the Arkutun-Dagi oil and gas field in Sakhalin area, in Far East Russia. Vitus Bering is the first vessel of the series, the sister vessel NB-507 will be delivered in April 2013. ”Delivering this vessel today is an important achievement for Arctech. It is an important reference for us as we compete in orders of arctic vessels in the future.

Arctic OSV Delivered 4 Months

Arctech Helsinki Shipyard, joint-venture, that is 50/50 owned by STX Finland and United Shipbuilding Corporation, is building two identical offshore icebreaking supply vessels for Russias largest shipping group Sovcomflot (SCF Group), the leading company in the world specializing in ice-management and shipping in harsh environments. The vessels will supply Exxon Neftegas Limited's platform in Arkutun-Dagi oil and gas field in Sakhalin area, Far East Russia. The development of the field is proceeding at good pace, why also the icebreaking offshore supply vessels are needed in the area. The main task of the Arctic offshore vessels is to supply the oil and gas production platform and to protect it from the ice. Both vessels measure 99.9 m in length and 21.7 m in breadth.

Estonia to get new Icebreaker

The Estonian Maritime Administration has awarded a contract to Aker Arctic Technology Inc, Helsinki, Finland, for designing a new multipurpose icebreaker. The value of the agreement is close to EUR 6 million, including the development of the conceptual design, the basic design, preparation of the tender documents needed for a public procurement for building the ship, and construction supervision.
