Osage Takes Towboat Delivery from Master Marine

Master Marine, Inc. has delivered a second towboat for Osage Marine Services, Inc. The newly built M/V Frank Mellor, like its sister ship, is a 67’ x 28’ vessel designed by Entech Designs, LLC. All USCG certificates for their Sub M compliance have been obtained.The towboat is powered by a pair of Laborde Products, S6R2-Y3MPTAW Mitsubishi 803 HP Tier III diesel marine engines to be operated at 1,400 RPM coupled to Twin Disc 5321 gears. Master Marine Signs Six Towboats

Master Marine, Inc. has signed Six (6) towboats and has laid the keels for the first two vessels. All Six (6) vessels will be 67’ x 28’ Entech Designs, LLC Sub. M compliant towboats. The first two will be working for Osage Marine Services, Inc., St. Louis, MO. with the rest operating in the lower Mississippi River system for an undisclosed customer. We are very happy to be teaming up with these companies to provide them and their customers the latest towboats and equipment available along with meeting Subchapter M requirements. Tugboat Sunk Near St. Louis Riverfront, River Closure

The Coast Guard informs it is responding with St. Louis Fire Department to the sinking of a towing vessel on the Mississippi River near the St. Louis Riverfront. Coast Guard Sector Upper Mississippi River received a report that the towing vessel Jim Marko owned by Osage Marine sank near the Stan Musial Memorial Bridge, with about 10,000 gallons of diesel fuel on board. The Mississippi River is closed between lock and dam 27 and the Eads Bridge. Pollution responders from Sector Upper Mississippi and the St. Louis Fire Department are on scene. The Coast Guard is investigating the cause of the incident, and adds that there were no injuries reported.

Osage Repowers with Laborde and Mitsubishi

Although the basic design of inland towboats has not changed in decades, there is a revolution in their propulsion systems. To meet strict environmental regulations while minimizing operating costs, Osage Marine Services has once again turned to Laborde Products to supply state-of-the-art Mitsubishi engines to repower a harbor tug. Jackie Sue was refitted with twin Mitsubishi S12A2-Y2MPTK engines rated 940 hp at 1,940 rpm. This is the second such project for the St. Louis, Missouri, fleeting company, with nine more on the horizon.

Laborde Repowers Harbor Tug Fleet

Osage Marine Service, Inc., a fleeting service with locations throughout the Midwest, knew it could trust Laborde Products to provide quality, reliable products when harbor tug Deborah Ann was in need of an engine overhaul. Laborde supplied Osage's St. Louis, Missouri branch with twin Mitsubishi S6A3-Y2MPTK engines rated 483 hp at 1,840 rpm to repower the vessel that is mainly used for switching docks and working line boats. Osage Marine already has a set of 940 hp engines from Laborde for the next repower and four more on order for next year.

Coast Guard Responds to Drifting Barges

The Coast Guard responded to an incident on the Mississippi River that resulted in approximately 45 barges breaking free of their moorings in the vicinity of the Osage fleeting area approximately 1 mile south of the Popular Street Bridge. The Coast Guard Sector Upper Mississippi River Command Center received a call from the manager at Osage Marine informing the Coast Guard of the multiple barge break away. The Coast Guard immediately broadcasted a notice to mariners of the situation and requested towboats in the area to assist. The Coast Guard values the assistance provided by the towboats in the area during the recovery operation. All barges were reported secured.
