A naming ceremony was held for Japan’s first liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering vessel at Kawasaki Heavy Industries' Sakaide Works shipyard, on Wednesday.The ship, named Kaguyais, the first LNG bunkering vessel to be operated in Japan. Kaguya will be operated by Central LNG Marine Fuel Japan Corporation and will be based at JERA's Kawagoe Thermal Power Station. Kaguya will begin supplying LNG fuel to ships in the Chubu region in October or later this year using ship-to-ship bunkering.The 81.7-meter-long vessel was named by Yukikazu Myochin, President of Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd.

Japanese shipping major Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has unveiled a number of new restructuring measures effective April 1, 2020.According to a press release, the  marine transportation provider intends to establish three new divisions and integrate its two tanker divisions to achieve synergy.MOL will establish the Offshore Gas Project Division as an organization focused on businesses related to the LNG field in energy value chains (FSRU projects, LNG bunker vessel project, etc.) to accelerate the enhancement of the offshore business, in which the company is concentrating the investment of management resources, as set out in Rolling Plan 2019.The Offshore Project Division shall have specific responsibilities in crude oil fields such as FPSO projects…

The project partners received the approval for the EMMA Extension application by the Interreg Baltic Sea Region Programme.EMMA Extension builds on the EMMA projects’ analyses, results and recommendations, said a press release from Port of Hamburg.Enhancing inland waterway transport (IWT) still is focused on and reflected in all activities of the extension project.EMMA Extension is the logical next step in further developing IWT services in Sweden, Poland and Lithuania as well as to support the uptake of newly developed river information services (RIS) in Germany. Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) is exploring the possibilities to generate power from liquefied natural gas (LNG) aboard ships as a low-cost, environmentally friendly alternative to land-based plants. According to a report on Nikkei, MOL is looking to supply LNG to ship-based power generators to create electricity, delivering this to shore using underwater cables. This is a cheaper alternative to building shore-based power plants and could have particular appeal in emerging markets, Nikkei says. Compared with power plants on land, site acquisition and other initial costs can be kept low. The company is considering shopping the idea to emerging countries wary of the high price tag that comes with building power plants.

The Japanese shipping company  Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd (MOL) will restructure its organization effective April 1, says a press statement from the company. MOL is establishing the Product Transport Business Unit, under which much of the carrier and port divisions will reside. It has also submitted an application to establish a logistics subsidiary in India. The company will establish the Product Transport Business Unit to create the cross-sectional system “One MOL” to promote businesses in the product transport field and further meet customer needs. Freight forwarding and logistics company DSV said it understands the importance of operational excellence and 7 people from across the three DSV divisions have just completed an intensive health and safety course accredited by the Institute of Occupational Health & Safety (IOSH). The four day course, Managing Safely, covered all aspects of health and safety and included a final exam. Each participant also had to complete a written assignment back at their workplace. Global carrier Evergreen Marine Corporation (Taiwan) Ltd. announced the promotion of its President Jack Yen to Vice Chairman. Captain C.J. Wang, Chief Executive Vice President, has been appointed President. Anchor Chang, Executive Vice President of International Business Division, was promoted to Chief Executive Vice President. Jack Yen joined Evergreen in 1978. He has broad international experience having served the company in several significant locations including Germany, the UK, the U.S., and Hong Kong. His senior positions have included President of Evergreen Star Hong Kong Ltd where he had major responsibilities for the mainland China market, and president of Evergreen Deutschland GMBH. At the recent ABS Council meeting in N.Y., 40 prominent members of the shipping and offshore industries were elected as new members of the international classification society. Evergreen Shipping Agency (), North America general agents for Evergreen Line, has announced two new executive vice president appointments in its head office. Jay Buckley has been named Executive Vice President, Business, and Louise Yu, Executive Vice President, Customer Service. Buckley will oversee all marketing and sales efforts in . Ms. Yu's responsibilities will be in charge of Customer Service functions. Both have spent their entire careers at Evergreen in the U. Jay Buckley joined Evergreen in Boston in 1983, the year after he graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and The Ocean Corp. in  Houston, TX. He started as a sales representative and in 1993 was promoted  to office Manager, overseeing sales, logistics and customer service.

Columbia Coastal Transport, LLC,has announced the formation of a new government/military and project division to assist companies with their cargo needs in these specialized areas. Donovan Murray will head up the newly established government/military division, and Joseph Villa will serve as general manager operations overseeing the project division. Murray has been with Columbia Coastal since August of 1993, and was named as port manager in Baltimore in August of 1995. Most recently, he has served as regional manager for the company’s Chesapeake services. In his new post, Murray will oversee the company’s government/military division which handles all manner of U.S. government and military cargoes aboard its U.S. flag barges.

Columbia Coastal Transport, LLC, has been notified by Maritime Administrator, Captain William G. Schubert, that its application was approved for MARAD’s Voluntary Intermodal Sealift Agreement (VISA) program. Its acceptance into the VISA program allows Columbia Coastal to receive top-tier award priority for Department of Defense peacetime cargo. Columbia Coastal has also completed the contingency contracts for both the Military Traffic Management Command and Military Sealift Command which dictate terms and rates in the eventits vessels are utilized in time of war. “All of Columbia Coastal’s 14 barges are committed into the VISA program,” said Mr. Donovan Murray, General Manager Government Affairs at Columbia Coastal.
