The No-Emissions Workboat (Really!)

Thereā€™s no debate about LNG in New York. ELCO, New York State Canals team up to retrofit 86-year old tugboat with an electric motor. In June, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced the launch of an all-electric dredge tender work boat on the Erie Canal in the Utica area of New York. The project, a partnership with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) and the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT), utilized an electric motor supplied and installed by Elco Motor Yachts, LLC, of Athens, New York. Significantly, the New York State Canal Corporation collaborated with Yorkville-based New West Technologies, LLC, in order to determine how best to transition the Stateā€™s work boat fleet to a cleaner propulsion system.

Tanker Market 2014 Foundations Shaky Say Analysts

Looking at the global economy, although markets seemingly having a hard time digesting recent moves by the US Fed to scale back its bond purchasing program, a recovery appears to be on the horizon. One notable difference when compared to recent years has been that OECD economies, in particular the US, comprises a larger contribution to this development. This has been spurred by reduced energy costs on the back of the US oil boom which has been helping to reign in the unemployment level.

ABS Grants Energy Management Certifications

ABS announced the certification of several maritime industry leaders for adopting energy management systems. Gaslog LNG Services Ltd., Consolidated Marine Management and Goodwood Ship Management Pte Ltd. are among the first organizations to certify their energy management systems using the ABS Guide for Marine Health, Safety, Quality, Environmental and Energy (HSQEEn) Management. These forward-leaning companies are exceeding maritime industry requirements for energy efficiency and establishing systems that will allow them to manage operations that align with increased environmental awareness. This certification recognizes the addition of energy efficiency to these organizationā€™s existing marine management systems.
