Vilnia Maersk Delivered to Maersk

Danish shipping conglomerate A.P. Møller – Mærsk A/S has taken delivery of Vilnia Maersk, a 3,600 TEU containership, from COSCO Zhoushan Shipyard.According to a stock exchange annoucement, Shanghai NSE supplied main switchboard   for the vessel.The statement said that the 3600TEU Container Vessel (Hull No.: N693) was built by COSCO (Zhoushan) Shipyard Co., Ltd. for Maersk Line Ltd.The ship is the sixth in a series of a total of seven Baltic feeders Maersk’s brand Seago Line plans to deploy in the North Sea and Baltic Sea.The ship has been described as the world’s largest ice-class container vessels, designed specifically for operation in winter conditions and temperatures of down to -25 degrees C.

CMA CGM Improves NC Levant Service

CMA CGM has announced the new upgraded service offer NC LEVANT, which directly links the Eastern Mediterranean Sea (Turkey, Egypt, Lebanon) and Northern Europe (Belgium, England, Germany), via Malta, Spain and Italy. The NC Levant service will now provide extended port coverage with a new export call in Tanger Med towards the Levant Sea, and a new import call in Algeciras towards Northern Europe. Long Beach, LA to Track Maersk Line’s Emissions

The ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles are partnering with shipping company Maersk Line to measure the environmental benefits of a $125 million upgrade for 12 Maersk containerships. The initiative will involve the installation of high-tech equipment to track vessel emissions and energy efficiency over the next three years, enabling more transparency and ultimately reducing the environmental impact of vessels calling at the San Pedro Bay port complex. CMA CGM Improves FEMEX Service

CMA CGM announced the extension of its port coverage and its competiveness in the Mediterranean, CMA CGM will consolidate its own FEMEX service jointly with SEAGO and Hamburg Süd. This improvement increases the service offering for customers on the important link between North Europe and the Marmara Region in Turkey. For CMA CGM, the new ports of Felixstowe, Valencia and Piraeus will be added to the former existing rotation. The current calls at Casablanca and Constanta are transferred on new dedicated short sea services. This means an improved transit time both on the south and north bound. The new service will be operated by five 6,500 TEUs vessels: 2 by CMA CGM, 2 by SEAGO and 1 by Hamburg Süd.

Seago Line Introduces New Vessel to Liverpool Service

Maersk subsidiary Seago Line has introduced a new vessel to its recently created feeder service calling at Liverpool. The Independent Accord has already started operating on the new cargo route between Algeciras-Liverpool-Dublin that began in April. The service was established to provide direct cargo connections to and from the north west of England to Ireland and onwards to the Mediterranean, providing trade links to North and West Africa. It offers a six-day transit time between Algeciras and Liverpool, with vessels arriving and departing on Wednesdays.

Diana Charters Out Containerships to SeaGo Line

Diana Containerships Inc., a global shipping company specializing in the ownership of containerships, today announced that, through a separate wholly-owned subsidiary, it entered into a time charter contract with SeaGo Line A/S for one of its Post-Panamax container vessels, the m/v March. The gross charter rate is $6,075 per day, minus a 5 percent commission paid to third parties, for a period of minimum seven months to maximum 12 months. The charter is expected to commence at the end of June 2016, with the charter rate commencing ten days after the delivery of the vessel to the charterers.

Maersk Line, RUSAL Partner Long-term

Container shipper Maersk Line has signed an agreement of intent with global aluminum producer RUSAL to cooperate within cargo transportation for the long term. Under the agreement, RUSAL and Maersk Line will cooperate with regards to transport of RUSAL’s products, particularly aluminum and alloys. The estimated cargo volume of the agreement may reach 10,000 containers (TEU) per year. The agreement is valid for three years and includes options for further extension. “The signing of this agreement is a confirmation of the mutual intentions to build a long-term strategic partnership between RUSAL and Maersk Line. The aim of the agreement is the joint search for the most optimal logistic solutions aimed at optimizing costs for both parties,” said Vladislav Soloviev, RUSAL CEO.

Maersk Returns to Liverpool

Maersk has been welcomed to the Port of Liverpool with a formal reception for its feeder vessel Antwerp. The event on April 27 was attended by Seago and Maersk representatives along with customers, and was followed by a port tour, including a trip to the top of the 90m Grain Tower. The 1,100 TEU Antwerp made its first call last week. Operator Seago is the latest carrier to introduce a new service via Liverpool and will provide a new cargo route between Algeciras-Liverpool-Dublin.

Maersk Line Tops World Shipping in 2016

Maersk Line, a unit of the A.P. Moller-Maersk Group, based in Copenhagen, Denmark, has retained its position as the world’s largest container shipping line, according to Alphaliner. It is still the world’s largest ocean carrier by capacity but its closest rivals, Mediterranean Shipping Co. and CMA CGM, posted higher fleet growth rates during 2015. It is safe from its closest rivals with a fleet growth of 4.1 percent in 2015, data from Alphaliner shows. Maersk has cut sharply on Asia-Europe but have moved ships elsewhere. It had a total operated capacity of 3.01m teu across 584 ships at the beginning of the year, compared with nearest rival MSC’s 484 ships for 2.67m teu.

Malta Freeport Chosen by 2 Mega Alliances

Malta Freeport Terminals have been chosen by two mega shipping alliances -  2M Alliance and Ocean Three Alliance - as their main transshipment hub in the Central Mediterranean. The '2M' Alliance is made up of Maersk Line and Mediterranean Shipping Company and the 'Ocean Three Alliance' is composed of  CMA CGM, China Shipping Container Lines and United Arab Shipping Company. Malta Freeport statement said that this was a significant accomplishment for its terminals which clearly attests that the Freeport's facilities offer carriers the required infrastructure and equipment to operate the largest vessels. Maersk's New Americas Company, SeaLand, to Commence in 2015

Ocean transportation company Maersk Line, a unit of the A.P. Moller-Maersk Group, announced today the formation of a regional, containerized shipping company – SeaLand - dedicated to the intra-Americas market. The new affiliate will have a structure similar to Maersk's other regional carriers such as intra-Asia carrier MCC Transport and intra-Europe carrier Seago Line. SeaLand will feature knowledgeable, local sales and support personnel positioned in North, Central and South America, as well as the Caribbean, to meet the unique needs of customers throughout the region.

Maersk Line Signs Up for INTTRA E-Shipping

Maersk Line sign a multi-year e-commerce shipping network contract with INTTRA as part of a strategic growth strategy for both companies. Maersk Line and its brands Safmarine, Seago Line, and MCC will extend the benefits of the INTTRA e-commerce shipping network to its customers, making INTTRA the preferred global portal for automating shipping processes. The new agreement is the latest business partnership between INTTRA and Maersk Line, which spans 12 years. Since first working together, the two companies have maintained a joint commitment to improve customer satisfaction, remove costs and drive efficiencies through the use of e-commerce solutions in the ocean shipping industry.

GCS Adds New Feeder and Short-Sea Links

The Global Container Service Group (GCS) has added new feeder and short-sea links to the list of services calling at the NUTEP terminal in Novorossiysk. Both GCS and NUTEP are members of the Delo Group. X-Press Feeders has launched the BSX service to Novorossiysk, Odessa and other Black Sea ports by adding a vessel to Evergreen’s Black Sea feeder (BSF). Piraeus – Odessa – Constantza – Varna – Piraeus. Piraeus – Novorossiysk - Odessa – Constantza – Varna – Istanbul - Piraeus. Novorossisyk – Odessa – Evyap – Istanbul – Gemlik – Izmir – Alexandria – Ashdod - Haifa – Izmir – Istanbul – Gemlik – Evyap –Novorossisyk – Odessa. Now, Admiral is starting a second service, an Istanbul (Marport)/Novorossiysk shuttle, using the 508TEU Corsa. The first sailing is due to take place in late October.

Hamburg Sud to Change Port Rotations

In response to unfavorable trading conditions, Hamburg Süd will rationalize its services between North Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean. From the first week of August onwards, the existing two-sling concept is to be reconfigured with the aim of ensuring the same comprehensive port coverage while achieving the desired rationalization effects. While the Northern Route Service (NEMN) to Turkey is to be withdrawn, the Southern Route Levante Service (NESM) will be adjusted to include ports from the Northern Route Service. Felixstowe – Antwerp – Hamburg – Tangiers – Alexandria – Limassol – Beirut –Latakia – Mersin – Izmir – Alexandria – Salerno – Felixstowe. The service will also feature connections to Tunisia, Algeria and Western Med ports from Tangiers.

Polarcirkel Expands Design

Polarcirkel AS partnered with Nova Sea AS, Norway, to design and build a Cabin Workboat for transporting personnel out to fish farming feed barges, even in the harshest weather conditions. Designated the Polarcirkel 860 Cabin Workboat, MS Nova Polar is built to the standard 28 ft 3 inch Polarcirkel limit, with the 10 ft beam providing a great working deck and a huge cabin with lots of head room and all round visibility. Under the floor aft is a single Volvo Penta D6 series 5.5 liter diesel engine rated at 370 hp.
