Nitin Gadkari, Indian Minister of Shipping will inaugurate five port projects worth INR  1062 Crores (USD 156 mln ) in Vishakhapatnam today (Friday). The projects to be inaugurated include upgradation of existing iron ore handling facility at Outer Harbour of Vizag Port. This would involve modernising and upgrading the 40 year old iron ore handling facility so that it can handle larger vessels of 2 lakh DWT with loading rate of 8000 MT/hour. Capacity enhancement would be to 16.20 MTPA from 12.50 MTPA. The work was awarded to M/s.ESSAR Vizag Terminals Ltd on DBFOT basis with revenue share of 31% on 14.5.2015 is was completed on 31.5.2018. The other projects to be inaugurated include Development Berths at the inner harbour of the port and Post Panamax Quay Cranes.

France-based Haropa port expects maritime trade with India to grow at double digit this calendar year after having reported 7% growth in 2016, said Herve Martel, , CEO - Port of Le Havre & President- HAROPA ports. “We have received encouraging response from the Indian policy makers as also from port, shipping lines & Indian trade during our four day visit to India and we hope to build upon this momentum with increasing French investments taking place in India,” Martel said at the concluding leg of the multi city road show that took place in Delhi, Chennai, Ahmedabad and finally in Mumbai. There are over 1,000 French subsidiaries, including Sanofi, Arkema, Dassault, Alstom, Total etc, in India.

In a bid to raise the maritime container trade between French port HAROPA and Indian ports, a power-packed delegation is visiting India from February 20-23 to hold road shows in four cities across the country. Maritime tracking AIS facility MarineTraffic has opened up its satellite-AIS service in the search area relevant to the missing MH370 airliner. Following requests from numerous agencies and individuals, this usually paid-for service has now been made available to any user free of charge. MarineTraffic Managing Director, Demitris Memos said, “Like most people around the world, we have taken an active interest in the search for this aircraft. With the battery life of the black box apparently nearing exhaustion, it is clearly necessary for everyone to do what they can to assist. The Australian operations center will also have access to the facility to help them build a more comprehensive picture of non-search vessels transiting the area.

Despite the ongoing shipping crisis, Becker Marine Systems said it is on course for 2013. The Hamburg-based company was awarded the contract to equip five 18,000-TEU container ships under construction for China Shipping Container Lines with effective high performance rudders. With a transport capacity of 18,000 standard containers (Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit or TEU), the container ships currently under construction for China Shipping Container Lines at the Hyundai Heavy Industries shipyard in South Korea will be among the largest cargo ships in the world.

Designers, builders & propellor suppliers employ latest technologies to achieve good results in sea trials of the latest 'Seahorse 35000' bulk carrier. The combined efforts of Stone Marine Propulsion, the NPT propellers designers and manufacturers, Grontmij/Schmidt Maritime the vessels designers, Becker Marine and builders Yangzhou Guoyu bear fruit for the latest Seahorse 35.000 dwt bulk carrier recently launched. The vessel recently completed sea trials and has exceeded all the performance requirements built into its contract.

Cardiff-based Graig Group has taken delivery of the 35,000 dwt handysize bulk carrier Graig Cardiff, the first of two Seahorse 35 class vessels building for Graig and partners at Jiangdong Shipyard, Wu Hu, China. The Graig Cardiff is entered into the Lauritzen Bulkers pool and is currently on her maiden voyage from Shanghai to Argentina. Her sister vessel, the Graig Rotterdam, is due for delivery later this year. Both vessels have been constructed under the supervision of Graig China Limited and will be managed by Graig's ship management divisions in Cardiff and Shanghai.

A boat with suspension, a giant robotic arm and a vessel resembling a seahorse are just three of the innovative concepts shortlisted by the Carbon Trust as part of a competition to solve the problem of transferring engineers and equipment safely on to wind turbines as far as 300km offshore in wave heights up to around three meters. The project aims to improve the economics of offshore wind by keeping turbines generating electricity in the harshest sea conditions to increase revenues by as much as £3bn for the next generation of the UK’s offshore wind farms.

Moose Boats announced its latest boat design, the S3000, an outboard catamaran, during the Fred Hall Fishing Tackle and Boat Show, March 6 - 10, at the Long Beach Convention Center. With twin Yamaha 225 HP, four-stroke, fuel injected outboards and the catamaran design; the S3000 has a top end speed of 40 knots and a cruise speed of 32 knots. The overall length is 32.5 ft. and weighs approximately 8,800 lbs. dry and holds 300 gallons of fuel, which provides a comfortable 450 mile range. Moose Boats only builds aluminum catamarans. The S3000 is the first outboard fishing boat that takes full advantage of this stable cat design. The all welded aluminum hull makes the S3000 a rugged, all weather boat that can handle the most demanding sea conditions.

Seahorse Shuttling and Technology LLC, a wholly owned entity of Conoco, has completed the functional design of a new tanker for shuttling crude oil from the deepwater Gulf of Mexico to shore. double-hulled "GoMAX 550(TM)" shuttle tanker will be capable of transporting 550,000 barrels of crude oil. With a 40-foot draft, the new shuttle tanker will be able to enter most ports in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico. "A major challenge of producing new crude oil discoveries in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico has been developing efficient means of transportation to U.S. refineries," said Antonio Valdes, manager of Conoco Marine. The GoMAX 550(TM) design is the result of a shipbuilding alliance between Conoco, Alabama Shipyard of Mobile, Ala., and Samsung Shipbuilding and Heavy Industries of South Korea.

The M/V CAPT. RUDY is a 163 ft. mega mini supply boat named in honor of the captain of one of the first Bollinger 145 ft. mini supply boats, SEAHORSE I, Capt. Rudy “Uncle Rudy” Lefort.

Bollinger Shipyards, Inc., has performed conversions and modifications to three separate dive support vessels for EPIC Divers & Marine. The first of the three conversions was completed on the 220-ft. x 45-ft x 21-ft dynamically positioned (DP) Class II Dive and ROV support vessel EPIC Diver at the Bollinger Algiers location. The EPIC Diver is one of the newest acquisitions to the EPIC fleet and will be their primary DP and ROV support vessel. While at Bollinger the vessel renewed her regulatory status and documentation, received DP system upgrades with the installation of the L3 Communications (Nautronix) NMS 6000 Duplex DP System, while taking on the new colors and name EPIC Diver. The vessel is ABS Certified, DPII, and SOLAS.

Nearly two centuries after Bombay’s famed Wadia family built HMS Minden — the ship on which the American national anthem Star Spangled Banner was written — history will sail a full circle later this month. The U.S. Navy is all set to hand over Seattle-built USS Trenton, an amphibious transport warship, to the Indian Navy. It will be the first American-made vessel to join India’s growing blue water fleet. A crew of more than 300 Indian Navy personnel is already training in Norfolk, Virginia, to take charge of Trenton in a formal ceremony on January 17, when the ship will be officially decommissioned from the U.S. Navy. It will then set sail for India, where it is likely to be inducted into the Eastern Naval Command in Visakhapatnam.
