JRC Says Its Wave Analysis Tool Helps Prevent Container Spills

Thousands of containers have been lost by ships in heavy weather conditions over recent months, impacting the ocean environment and adding a large extra cost expense for shipping companies.Among many factors leading to the problem is heavy rolling and pitching of the ship that causes containers to lose their stability and fall overboard. Marine electronics company JRC said its navigational radar JMR-7200/9200 includes a Wave Analysis function made available through a software upgrade.The JRC Radar Wave Analysis function is developed to measure wave height, direction and length.

Vigor Wins $133 Mln US Navy Repair Job

Vigor Marine has been awarded a $133,406,869 firm-fixed-price contract to prepare for and accomplish repair and alteration requirements for USS McCampbell (DDG 85) chief of naval operations scheduled depot maintenance availability. The contract includes options which, if exercised, will bring the cumulative value of this contract to $155,621,173.The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer departed Fleet Activities Yokosuka, Japan on July 2, and is currently is en route to Vigor's Portland, Ore. shipyard, where she will undergo her midlife modernization.

Ten Tugs Equipped with SCHOTTEL and VULKAN

“Mark E. Kuebler”, “Ted C. Litton” and “Connelly M”, the first three terminal and escort tugs of a total of ten being constructed at Gulf Island Fabrication in the United States were recently delivered to Bay Houston Towing Co. Each of the Robert Allan-designed tugs is equipped with two SCHOTTEL Rudderpropellers type SRP 510 FP. Calnetix Technologies LLC has announced the commercial availability of its latest technology development, the Insight™ 3600 magnetic bearing controller. These state-of-the-art, compact, panel-mounted units are the company’s third generation of magnetic bearing controllers, offering control of advanced permanent magnet bias magnetic bearings in up to five independent axes. This turn-key system employs an ultra thin line array and passive sonar processor for the detection and tracking of surface ships and underwater vehicles. The signal processing is based on the next generation of Array Systems Computing Inc.’s (Array) SAPPS sonar processor architecture, which is currently in operational use by the German and Swedish Royal Navies.

This turn-key system employs an ultra thin line array and passive sonar processor for the detection and tracking of surface ships and underwater vehicles. The signal processing is based on the next generation of Array Systems Computing Inc.’s (Array) SAPPS sonar processor architecture, which is currently in operational use by the German and Swedish Royal Navies. The real-time sonar analysis provides broadband and narrowband analysis on the beamformed data. (2) As a bottom mounted array for fixed harbor surveillance.

$118m Navy Deal for LM MS2

Lockheed Martin Mission Systems & Sensors (LM MS2), Moorestown, N.J., is being awarded a $118,646,449 fixed-price-incentive contract for the production of two multi-mission signal processor equipment sets; three ballistic missile defense 4.0.1 equipment sets; and five Aegis Weapon System upgraded equipment sets to support fielding Aegis modernization capabilities to the fleet. Sets will be delivered to USS Arleigh Burke (DDG 51); USS John Paul (DDG 53); USS Benfold (DDG 65); USS Barry (DDG 52); USS Princeton (CG 59); USS Cowpens (CG 63); and USS Gettysburg (CG 64). Work will be performed in Moorestown, N.J. (74 percent), Clearwater, Fla. (25 percent), and Akron, Ohio (1 percent). Work is expected to be completed by September 2013.

Offshore: OTC Announces Technology Winners

The Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) announces 15 winners for its inaugural Spotlight on New Technology Program. These winners are recognized before, during and after the 35th annual OTC, 3-6 May, Reliant Center at Reliant Park in Houston. New Technology program, " said Rod Allan, OTC .04 Chairman. Applications for the Spotlight on New Technology were distributed at OTC .03 and were due 9 January 2004. Submissions had to meet four criteria: new and innovative, proven, broad interest, and significant impact. Winners will be recognized on site at this year's conference, scheduled May 3-6, on the exhibition floor and in the registration area. Spotlight on New Technology will continue as an annual recognition program coinciding with OTC.
