A tug and barge ran aground Thursday night near Deerfield Beach, Fla., while transporting munitions from Port Canaveral to a U.S. Naval facility in the Bahamas.The U.S.-flagged tug Sea Eagle had four people on board when it began taking on water and went aground at 8:45 p.m. on Thursday, the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) said. No injuries or pollution have been reported, and both the tug and barge are said to be in stable condition.Three of the crew members were rescued from the attached barge by Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations (CBP AMO) rescue crews.

A U.S. Coast Guard Station Fort Pierce 33-foot Special Purpose Craft—Law Enforcement boat and a 23-foot pleasure craft with five people aboard were involved in a collision Saturday near Manatee Pocket, in Florida.As a result of the collision, the pleasure craft began taking on water and became submerged in the channel.The people aboard the pleasure craft were embarked by the Coast Guard boat crew and taken to Sandsprit Park.One person from the pleasure craft was reported to be injured and was transported to Martin County Memorial Hospital for treatment. No other injuries were reported.

The end of the 2019 saw some unprecedented funding measure pass through Congress and signed into law by President Trump. The Gulf and East Coast have continued to receive significant funding to help deepen and widen navigational channels and gateways. One of the projects passed into law included the Gulf Coast Regional Demonstration Project. Some of the ports receiving funding and underway include Mobile, Baltimore, Houston, Port Everglades and Norfolk. All these projects funded by Congress draw a direct correlation to the expanded Panama Canal.

The Coast Guard rescued three people aboard a disabled boat approximately 12 miles east of Port of St. Lucie, Sunday. At approximately, 5 a.m., the crew of the tug McAllister Sister notified Coast Guard Sector Miami watchstanders of a red meteor flare from a 23-foot center console. The watchstanders directed the launch of a Coast Guard Station Fort Pierce 45-foot Response Boat—Medium crew to assist The Coast Guard boatcrew arrived on scene and towed the center console to the Smithsonian Marine Station.

North Carolina’s Beaufort Inlet Channel has been temporarily closed Thursday after a 590-foot cargo ship ran aground between buoys 16 and 17 in the channel. Watchstanders at U.S. Coast Guard Sector North Carolina received a call via landline at 1:15 p.m. that the bulk carrier Pola Palekh ran aground. The Malta-flagged vessel is carrying 35,800 metric tons of fertilizer and holds approximately 27,000 gallons of fuel oil. No injuries, pollution or damage to the ship have been reported. The runner ignored a previously issued order from U.S. Coast Guard Captain of the Port (COTP) to not depart on his seagoing journey. The order outlined specific safety conditions which Baluchi failed to meet. At approximately 2 a.m. Sunday, a Coast Guard Station Fort Lauderdale boatcrew discovered Reza Baluchi aboard his makeshift hydro pod approximately 7 miles off the coast of Jupiter en route to Bermuda. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector North Carolina in Wilmington received a call from the operator of the 27-foot vessel Poseydon Dive at approximately12:15 p.m., reporting a woman aboard was suffering from seasickness and losing consciousness. At a presentation earlier today the Coast Guard Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to the education and welfare of all Coast Guard members and their families presented a $10,000 gift to Coast Guard Station Fort Pierce, Fort Pierce, Florida. The funds will be used to provide kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, and camping and fishing gear for the 45 active duty members and 15 reservists, and their families based at this Coast Guard station. The U.S. Coast Guard rescued three people Monday after their 68-foot fishing vessel started to sink 36 miles southwest of Sanibel Island. A member of Sea Tow Marco Island contacted Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg watchstanders reporting they overheard a crewmember aboard the Cheyenne call out “mayday,” declare that they were taking on water and unable to keep up with the flooding. Watchstanders diverted the crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Marlin, an 87-foot Coastal Patrol Boat homeported in Fort Myers Beach, Fla., to the scene. "Once on scene, the rescue crew determined there was a crack in the hull somewhere on the forward bow," said Kevin Coyne, a search and rescue coordinator at the sector.

The Coast Guard is investigating a possible hoax call after multiple Coast Guard assets and partner agencies responded to a distress call that was made via VHF-FM channel 16, Sunday at approximately 2:45 a.m. near Beaufort, N.C. As part of this investigation, the Coast Guard is seeking the public’s assistance to identify the caller or provide additional information. 1968-M/V Triple Crown foundered off the coast of Southern California with a loss of nine lives while retrieving the anchor and chain of a large offshore drilling rig. At the time of the casualty Triple Crown had eight anchors and 26,000 feet of chain on board, the weight of which caused a low freeboard aft. Three-to five waves washed over the stern and entered a stackhouse door that could not be closed due to the location of one anchor on deck. The engine flooded, the vessel listed to starboard and sank. The Coast Guard investigated. 1999-Elian Gonzalez, a 5-year old Cuban boy, was found on Thanksgiving morning clinging to an inner tube three miles off the coast of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He was among three survivors of a boating catastrophe which killed 11 migrants fleeing Cuba.

A Unified Command compromised of federal, state and vessel owner’s representatives are overseeing response operations to the grounding of the 600 foot bulk freight ship Federal Pescadores which was attempting to anchor outside Port Everglades, Fla. The Panamanian-flagged vessel was carrying cement, also has approximately 588 tons of bunker oil and 105 tons of diesel fuel onboard. Titan Maritime, LLC and its subcontractor Resolve Marine Group will focus on refloating the M/V Federal Pescadores at high tide, Sunday afternoon. Commercial salvage engineers began removing fuel oil from the vessel’s double bottom fuel tanks at approximately 11:40 a.m. today to mitigate any pollution risks prior to refloating the vessel. The fuel oil is being transferred to MSRC Barge 452.

MIAMI - Crews from Station Miami Beach, Station Fort Lauderdale, Air Station Opa Locka, and the Coast Guard Cutter Gannet responded this afternoon as the Betty Wood, a 130-foot tug pushing a 500-foot barge with 10 people on board, experienced an engine fire 17 miles east of Haulover Beach. The initial distress call was received at 11:52 a.m. Currently there are three rescue boats, two helicopters, one Falcon jet, and the Coast Guard Cutter Gannet on scene to assist the vessel's crew and monitor the situation. The fire is reported to be extinguished, although there is still smoke on board. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Kearsarge Expeditionary Strike Group (KSGESG) assisted in the rescue of three mariners aboard a sailboat in distress May 18. The crew of the 48-foot S/V (sailing vessel) Sea Fever, ages 90, 81 and 50 respectively, were rescued 40 miles off the coast of North Carolina as a result of the combined efforts of amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge (LHD 3), Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 22 Detachment 1, and Coast Guard Station Fort Macon. When the began taking on water, the Sea Fever crew sent a 'mayday' message reporting they were taking on water. Although they had three pumps energized, they were not able to keep up with the flooding and were going down. U.S. Coast Guard Sector North Carolina responded to the mayday, and sent a request for assistance in their search for the stranded vessel.
