Kongsberg's Propulsion and Control System for Scandlines' Zero-emission Ferry

Norway's Kongsberg Maritime said Friday it would supply a complete propulsion and control system package for a forthcoming Scandlines zero-emissions ferry which, when built, is destined to be the world’s largest all-electric double-ended ferry. The ferry has been designed by LMG Marin AS in Norway and will be constructed at Cemre Shipyard in Turkey, in cooperation with Scandline’s vessel-newbuild experts. Wärtsilä BWMS for Three Maersk Tankers

Maersk Tankers A/S of Denmark has selected Wärtsilä's Electro Chlorination (EC) Ballast Water Management System (BWMS) for three new 50,000 DWT medium range (MR) tankers being built at the Samsung Heavy Industries (Ningbo) yard in China. The order was signed in the second quarter of 2016. Ensuring compliance with the upcoming IMO Ballast water management convention is becoming a priority for ship owners, and the selection of Wärtsilä EC systems by Maersk Tankers ensures their future compliance with IMO requirements while USCG type approval is expected to be obtained by Q1 2017. The Wärtsilä Aquarius EC BWMS is compliant in all salinities.

Rickmers-Linie Transports Three LPG Storage Tanks

Rickmers-Linie’s 19,100dwt Baltic Winter has recently completed the transportation of three LPG storage tanks, each weighing 475 tons, from Kuantan in Malaysia to Shuaiba in Kuwait. Fabricated by KNM Process System Sdn Bhd, part of the global KNM Group, the tanks were destined for the new Kuwait Oil Tanker Company (KOTC) LPG filling station at Umm Al-Aish, to the north of Kuwait City. The new plant will be built on an area of 150,000 square meters and provide 15 million cylinders of gas every year. The overall project, which involves six tanks, is being handled by the Malaysian heavylift transport specialists SGV Logistik Sdn Bhd and Aman Logistics Sdn Bhd. It was SGV Logistik that awarded to Rickmers-Linie the contract to transport the first three units to Kuwait.

Maersk Tankers, HHI & DNV Joint CO2 Ship Design

Maersk Tankers, Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) and Det Norske Veritas (DNV) have agreed to collaborate on the design and risk assessment of tankers for shipping CO2. Maersk Tankers is already in a partnership with Maersk Oil and Finnish utilities Fortum and Teollisuuden Voima (TVO), aimed at developing a joint carbon emissions abatement project in the area of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS). “Shipping CO2 in tanker vessels is a cost effective and flexible way to get CO2 from power plants to offshore storage sites, which makes it a suitable solution for large CO2 emission sources such as coal-fired power plants, especially in the emerging phase of CCS.” says Anders Schulze, Head of CO2 Shipping in Maersk Tankers.
