Survitec Group Completes Merger with WMS Safety Business

Survitec Group, a provider of critical safety and survival technology to the marine and defence markets, has announced the completion of its merger with Wilhelmsen’s marine safety business. The deal includes the transfer of all Wilhelmsen Maritime Services AS (WMS)’ safety related systems, products, services and competence to Survitec. The combined business will operate under the name Survitec Group. Survitec Group will have access to a £1.5 billion ($1.9 billion)  addressable global market and will have over 3,000 employees in more than 35 countries. The combined group will have a revenue of ~c.£400m and will create value for customers as a result of the cost and revenue synergies and the end-to-end marine safety offering.

RINA Closes Edif Group Acquisition

RINA S.p.A, the holding company of the multinational testing, inspection, certification and consulting engineering group based in Genoa, Italy, has announced that it has closed its acquisition of the entire share capital of Edif Group Limited for £118.5 million (around $156 million). High levels of synergy can be seen between Edif and RINA’s services, complementing and expanding RINA’s existing industry services and geographic network. This strategic acquisition also allows RINA to branch into new areas within its industries and geographies, providing an enhanced service offering to new and existing clients. This growth will provide extensive global coverage and strengthen RINA’s presence in key sectors, including defence, energy, transport, built environment and infrastructure.

Northrop Grumman Sponsors Jubilee Sailing Trust

Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) is among the sponsors of  the Jubilee Sailing Trust (JST), a registered charity whose mission is to promote the integration of people of all physical abilities, including injured and recovering servicemen and women, through the challenge and adventure of tall ship sailing. As part of its sponsorship, Northrop Grumman's Sperry Marine business unit replaced the navigational electronics on the Lord Nelson, one of JST's two tall ships. This update included the main gyro compass system originally fitted in 1985. Since the JST was established in 1978, they have welcomed more than 40,000 people on board, of whom 15,000 have had a disability and 5,500 have been wheelchair users.

GE Showcases Maritime Industry Solutions at SMM

Today at the SMM 2014 exhibition, GE announced it will showcase a variety of cutting-edge projects and solutions to meet demands of the global commercial and naval marine industry. According to Afra Gerstenfeld, General Manager of Transportation’s Marine group, “The products and services GE provides can help customers operate ships more efficiently, reduce emissions and meet stringent global environmental regulations. •    Dongwon Industries-- one of the world's largest tuna fishery companies -- will use two 16V250 GE Marine diesel engines to power two 80-meter-long tuna purse seiners. The first ship is scheduled for commissioning in late 2015. This is the second GE diesels order from Dongwon. Local support is provided by GE’s regional distributor, YusinHR.

Northrop Grumman Awarded Navy IT Contract

Grumman Corporation informs it has been selected by the US Navy as one of five contractors for the Consolidated Afloat Networks and Enterprise Services (CANES) full deployment production contract to upgrade cybersecurity, command and control, communications and intelligence (C4I) systems across the fleet. The indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity multiple award contract has a potential value of $2.5 billion over eight years. "Northrop Grumman is deeply committed to helping the Navy transform its afloat C4I computers and networks into a single integrated, cyber-protected computing network," said Sam Abbate, vice president and general manager, command and control division, Northrop Grumman Information Systems.

IHC Hytech, Fathom Systems Enter Distributor Agreement

Two commercial offshore diving companies, IHC Hytech and Fathom Systems, joined forces by signing a new international distributor agreement that was signed on May 7, 2013. Under the terms of the agreement, IHC Hytech will distribute Fathom Systems’ products in the commercial diving, hyperbaric tunneling and medical equipment markets. Based in Raamsdonksveer in The Netherlands, IHC Hytech is part of IHC Merwede, and designs and manufactures equipment for offshore diving and other related markets. Its product portfolio ranges from small portable breathing gas panels, to complete turnkey hyperbaric multi-chamber systems that are supplied complete with environmental control units.

ROV Seamor Evolution of a Brand

Originally developed in the mid-1980s by two Canadians, Seamor was intended to become a simple, low-cost, underwater “flying” video camera system that could be easily deployed from a small boat and enjoyed by those who wanted to enjoy the underwater world without getting wet – a “Recreational ROV.”  Today, more than 30 years later, that market is still in its infancy. The first Seamor prototype consisted of two aluminum tubes strapped to an aluminum frame. One tube housed a color video camera (the size of a chimney brick) and the other an incandescent floodlight.

Analytic Systems Products ABS Certified

Analytic Systems has announced that it has responded to its commercial marine reseller network in North America and started the process of certifying their marine specific power conversion products. These products will be highlighted at the Multi-Agency Combat Craft Conference at Norfolk, VA in May, 2012. The first models to be certified to ABS standards are the new BCA1505 (1500W AC charger); the BCA310 (300W AC charger); the IPS300 (300W DC/AC Puresine inverter) and the VTC315 (Isolated DC/DC voltage converter). Rolls-Royce awarded contracts worth over £70-million to supply large thrusters for offshore drilling vessels. These latest orders, which include options for additional thrusters, are from a variety of customers who are expanding their drillship fleets and are driven by greater demand in oil and gas exploration in deep water and harsh conditions. These high specification drillships operate in dynamic positioning (DP) mode, using satellite technology to automatically maintain position without anchoring. Multimode Maritime Radar Contract for Telephonics Corp.

Northrop Grumman Corporation, under a US Navy contract, selects Telephonics Corp., to supply radar for Fire Scout unmanned aerial system. A US$33-million contract was awarded to provide the development, production, integration and testing of nine radar systems. The new Telephonics RDR-1700B+ radar will give the MQ-8B Fire Scout critical wide-area search and long-range imaging capability to complement the focused capabilities of its current electro-optical infrared payload. Northrop Grumman is the Navy's prime contractor for Fire Scout, the only vertical unmanned aerial system program of record. The Navy put the company under contract to assess and select a radar system that would best match the MQ-8B Fire Scout's maritime operational requirements.
