A fire on the ocean surface west of Mexico's Yucatan peninsula early on Friday has been extinguished, state oil company Pemex said, blaming a gas leak from an underwater pipeline for sparking the blaze captured in videos that went viral.Bright orange flames jumping out of water resembling molten lava was dubbed an "eye of fire" on social media due to the blaze's circular shape, as it raged a short distance from a Pemex oil platform.The fire took more than five hours to fully put outā€¦

MAN Wins First Order for High-Pressure SCR Two-Stroke Engines

German marine engineering giant MAN Energy Solutions has announced the very first order for its SCR-HP (Selective Catalytic Reduction ā€“ High Pressure) product. According to a press release from the producer of large-bore diesel engines and turbomachinery for marine industry, Mitsui (MES) has ordered 3 × SCR-HP (cluster 3) units in connection with the building of three 87k-dwt bulk carriers for the Ocean 21 Holdings company.Each bulker will be powered by a single MAN B&W 6S46ME-B8.5 low-speed engine delivering 9,900 kW at 84 rpm, and aspirated by an MAN TCA66 turbocharger. The engines will accordingly meet IMO Tier III emission standards.

Arctic LNG 2 to Buy Nuovo Pignone Turbines

Russia's largest independent natural gas producer PAO Novatek announced that its next LNG project, Arctic LNG 2 and Nuovo Pignone (Italy) signed an agreement on turbo machinery equipment.The the seventh largest publicly traded company globally by natural gas production volume said in a press release that the agreement provides for the supply of gas turbine compressors and gas turbine generators for the three liquefaction trains for the Arctic LNG 2 project.ā€œOur partnership with Nuovo Pignone extends back to 2013 as they supplied gas turbine compressors for the three liquefaction trains of our Yamal LNG project.ā€ noted Leonid Mikhelson, Novatek's Chairman of the Management Board.ā€œFor Arctic LNG 2, we need the unique turbo machinery to produce 6.6 million tons of LNG per annum.

Canadian engineering firm Aspin Kemp and Associates Inc. (AKA) and German based engine and turbomachinery market leader MAN Diesel & Turbo SE have finalized an agreement between the two companies whereby MAN Diesel & Turbo steps in as a 40 percent shareholder in AKA. Through this new partnership, AKA said it will look to build its innovative potential with MAN in a broader market for power and energy solutions. Company co-founder Jason Aspin remains a controlling shareholder and CEO of AKA. Co-founder Neale Kemp has retired from active business operations.

DNV GL Software Boosts Simulation Driven Design

As a result of the merger between DNV and Germanischer Lloyd, DNV GL is now strengthening its design and engineering software by expanding its Sesam portfolio with the product Sesam CAESES. Sesam CAESES supports upfront design optimization in the maritime, offshore and mechanical industries. With Sesam CAESES (Computer Aided Engineering System Empowering Simulation) users can improve hydro- or aerodynamic performance of designs, for example to achieve lower resistance and reduce pressure drop. This leads to higher energy efficiency of ship hulls, propellers, engines and turbo-machinery, improving environmental and business performance. Sesam CAESES was previously marketed as FRIENDSHIP-Framework, part of Germanischer Lloydā€™s software portfolio.

GE to Provide Equipment, Services for Statoilā€™s Gina Krog Platform

GE Oil & Gas was awarded a contract to provide Korean shipbuilding firm Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) with turbomachinery equipment and services for a new oil and gas production platform being built to support the production activities of Statoil Petroleum AS and its partners Total S.A. and Det Norske in the Gina Krog field in the Norwegian North Sea. Gina Krog (previously known as Dagny) is located 30 kilometers (km) northwest of the Sleipner field and approximately 250 km southwest of Stavanger, Norway. The development of Gina Krog will be among Statoil's major new developments with an estimated 225 million barrels of oil and gas. For the project, GE is supplying DSME with an integrated topside turbomachinery solution featuring products from several GE businesses.

GE Oil & Gas Win Petrobas FPSO Contract

GE Technology will be used on 4 new Floating Production, Storage & Offloading Units (FPSOs) for the Santos Basin (São Paulo State), in the Pre-Salt Fields. GE Oil & Gas wins the contract worth more than US$500-million to supply turbomachinery equipment and services to Petrobras, a world leader in deep-water oil production. The contract will serve the four new floating production, storage and offloading units (FPSOs P-74, P-75, P-76 and P-77) in the Cessão Onerosa region of the Santos Basin pre-salt fields, in the state of São Paulo. GE Oil & Gas will supply the main turbomachinery equipment to the four new FPSOs. The technology will generate primary energy for the FPSOs using gas turbines and advanced generatorsā€¦

MAN & Statoil Sign Turbo-machinery Agreements

MAN Diesel & Turbo, Switzerland, signs to provide Norway's Statoil with new subsea compressor equipment & maintenance services. The Zurich-based MAN Diesel & Turbo Schweiz AG and Statoil have followed a joint subsea compressor qualification programme since 2005. In early 2011 Aker Solutions ASA, Statoilā€™s main contractor for the Asgard subsea project, awarded a contract to MAN to build the world's first subsea compressors for gas production on the sea floor. GE Oil & Gas is to establish its new global headquarters in London, England. Florence will remain the global headquarters for GE Oil & Gas Turbomachinery Products & Services, a more than $6 billion business and a key manufacturing and engineering site for the production of centrifugal compressors and gas turbines. ā€œLondon was selected as the new headquarters location given its position as a leading international business and travel hub.
