Rescue 21 System for Baltimore-Washington Region

On August 19, the U.S. Coast Guard officially accepted the installation of the Rescue 21 search-and-rescue system that will provide enhanced life-saving communications capabilities to the entire Chesapeake Bay and the Potomac River, reaching as far as Washington, D.C. Rescue 21 enables the Coast Guard to quickly respond to and assist distressed mariners, saving lives and property. It also provides a wireless communications network that the Coast Guard can use to communicate with federal, state and local law enforcement agencies and other emergency first responders.

Broadpoint Expands Coverage into GOM

Broadpoint announced the signing of a multi-year roaming agreement with T-Mobile USA, Inc.  For the first time, T-Mobile’s customers will have access to wireless voice, data and SMS service while in and around the Gulf of Mexico. Under the contract, Broadpoint will provide T-Mobile customers access to its GSM/GPRS/EDGE network, which extends over 100,000 square miles into the Gulf of Mexico. The news comes on the heels of an announcement earlier this year of expanded coverage in deepwater areas of the Gulf, highlighting Broadpoint’s continued commitment to network investment. Broadpoint, AT&T Sign Contract

Broadpoint extended its alliance with AT&T, extending AT&T’s wireless voice and data capabilities further into the . “Our business and enterprise customers need a reliable communications system wherever their jobs may take them, and that’s exactly what Broadpoint offers,” said J.R. Wilson, associate vice president of Partnerships and Alliances for AT&T’s wireless operations. “AT&T serves more than 95 percent of the Fortune 100 and over 80 percent of the Fortune 500 companies. The current contract is the latest in a long-standing relationship between the two companies. Over the next few years, it will allow AT&T to expand its mobile enterprise customer base via Broadpoint’s superior cellular communication system.

SeaMobile Acquires Geolink

SeaMobile, Inc., a provider of at-sea communications, connectivity and content services announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Geolink, a pioneer and leading provider of satellite-based broadband communications and networking services with extensive experience serving the European market. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed. During the past year, SeaMobile has quickly become the dominant player in at-sea communications services. In May 2006, SeaMobile also acquired satellite industry leader Maritime Telecommunications Network (MTN). With the acquisition of Geolink, SeaMobile now provides broadband satellite, wireless voice and data, internet connectivity, television and other services for more than 300 maritime vessels throughout the world.

Trico Marine Names New Senior VP

Trico Marine Services, Inc. announces the appointment of Larry D. Francois as Senior Vice President of Operations. Prior to joining Trico, Francois served as President of Seabulk Offshore, a subsidiary of Seabulk International, Inc., for approximately three years where he was responsible for their worldwide offshore operations. Prior to his tenure at Seabulk, Larry served as area manager of domestic offshore marine operations for Tidewater, Inc. and prior to that assignment was a division manager for Zapata Gulf Marine Corporation in Mexico. Seamobile Acquires MTN

SeaMobile, Inc. has acquired Maritime Telecommunications Network, Inc. (MTN), a provider of satellite-based broadband communications and networking services for the maritime industry. The acquisition has been approved by the Federal Communications Commission. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed. “SeaMobile saw a strategic opportunity to combine the wireless and satellite expertise of the world’s leading maritime communications companies to completely change the way travelers communicate at sea,” said William D. Marks, Chief Executive Officer of SeaMobile. “Cruise travelers can take their own cell phones, Blackberry devices and laptops, read their hometown newspaper, watch live TV, access bank accounts through onboard ATMs and much more.
