Port of LA Names New Chief Harbor Engineer

The Port of Los Angeles announced it has appointed Dina Aryan-Zahlan to Chief Harbor Engineer, lead of the Port’s Engineering Division. McLane Research Laboratories Announces New WTS-LV Deep

The manufacturer time-series oceanographic profilers, samplers, and flotation McLane Research Laboratories announced a new a 7,000m (23,000ft) deep option for WTS-LV samplers. The WTS-LV Deep option is available on the Standard, Dual Filter, and High Capacity WTS-LV models, and can also be retrofit to existing WTS-LV systems.“The LV Deep option provides 35% greater depth capacity and has been a customer-requested enhancement for some time.” says McLane General Manager Jon Mogul. “Marine biologists, chemists and geologists can use the WTS-LV Deep to pump up to 45,000L of seawater and collect suspended particles from previously unattainable depths.”WTS-LV pumps with new 7,000m deep housings were used as the deepest two pumps on every cast during the recent U.S. GEOTRACES cruise GP15.

Suezmax Newbuilds Feature MAN Engines with EGR

Hyundai’s Ship Building Division (HHI-SBD) has finalized a contract for two Suezmax tankers for Turkish shipowner, Ditas Shipping. The 158,000-cubic-meter crude-oil tankers will each be powered by individual MAN B&W 6G70ME-C9.5 two-stroke main-engines that feature integrated Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) systems. While there are already IMO Tier III-compliant vessels with EGR systems in service, the Suezmax newbuildings will be the first vessels with keel-laying after January 1…

New Standard for LNG Cargo Containment Systems

Ti Group provided the insulation systems for six Sayaendo-design 150,000 cubic meter capacity LNG carriers under construction at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in Japan for NYK/MOL and K-Line.

Wilhelmsen Technical Solutions (WTS) said it has successfully completing the gas trial for the first LNG carrier built to a Boil Off Rate (BOR) of 0.08% per day. WTS subsidiary company Ti Group completed the test on the LNG carrier Seishu Maru, currently under construction at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in Japan for NYK Line. Ti Group was responsible for supplying the cargo tank insulation system on Seishu Maru, one of six LNG carriers to be delivered in this order. The vessel is a next generation Sayaendo design vessel, with a cargo capacity of 150,000 cubic meters.

Breakthrough order in Japanese shipbuilding market sees largest ever capacity Maritime Protection IG units delivered for leading domestic owners. Successful retrofit to first newbuilding sees Aberdeen-based owner specify further Low Expansion Foam system for second China-built jack-up. Wilhelmsen Technical Solutions (WTS) has received a repeat order to install its Unitor Low Expansion Foam fire extinguishing system on a second jack-up newbuilding for Prospector Offshore Drilling. The specialized firefighting systems will provide fire protection for the shale shakers and mud pits on Prospector  1 and Prospector 5 during their charters to Total E&P UK Ltd.

WTS Wins Xflow Watermist Fire Fighting Contracts

Ulsteinvik-based Island Offshore has specified Unitor XFlow for two vessels under construction by Vard at its Brevik facility. The scope of the contract includes supply of a total flooding water mist system for the ship’s engine room and a local protection water mist system. The vessels which are being built to a Rolls-Royce design will be delivered to Island Offshore in 2014 and Q1 2015. Bergen-based GC Reiber will install the XFlow system on a seismic research vessel under construction at Myklebust Verft for delivery in 2015.

China Offshore Inert Gas Orders for Norway's WTS

Wilhelmsen Technical Solutions (WTS) say they have secured multiple orders to supply Maritime Protection Inert Gas Generator (IGG) systems for installation on vessels under construction for operations offshore China. The Maritime Protection systems will be installed on three FPSOs for oil major China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC). Two identical systems, comprising a deck house module with electric power, fuel and sea water supply/discharge, will be supplied for two FPSOs which will operate in the Bohai oil field in northern China.

Wilhelmsen Lands Orders in Brazil Offshore Sector

Wilhelmsen Technical Solutions has secured multiple orders to supply its Maritime Protection Inert Gas Generator (IGG) systems for installation on vessels working offshore Brazil. The company will deliver a total of eight dual-fuel Maritime Protection systems via contracting partner EEP to Brazil’s national oil company Petrobras for installation onboard a quartet of Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs) being converted to Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessels. The conversion of the VLCC hulls is scheduled take place in the Estaleiro Inhauma drydock where the IGG equipment, capable of operation both on marine diesel oil/gas oil and natural gas, will be installed.

WTS Launch Upgraded Unitor-Generon Inert Gas System

Wilhelmsen Technical Solutions has launched an upgraded Unitor-Generon inert gas system to meet demand for a high-efficiency, low energy purging and padding system for liquid cargo safety. The updated Unitor-Generon system features modern membrane technology developed by Generon which enables the complete system to produce required levels of nitrogen using smaller compressors and other components, reducing overall footprint and lowering onboard energy consumption. Alfa Laval wins groundbreaking marine environmental order from MAN Diesel & Turbo for its PureNox Water Treatment System.
