CNCo Orders Remote Monitoring for 35 Vessels

Radio Holland, a global NavCom and service company in the maritime industry, said it has concluded  a maintenance and remote monitoring agreement with The China Navigation Company (CNCo) for 35 vessels. Radio Holland already provides CNCo’s newbuild, multipurpose vessels and bulk carriers with NavCom packages, and the latest agreement now covers the maintenance of this equipment on board 35 vessels. This further cooperation follows a remote monitoring pilot project. Radio Holland will now introduce remote monitoring throughout CNCo’s fleet.

Progress in Efforts to Address Sexual Assault - DoD

The Department of Defense today released its Annual Report on Sexual Harassment and Violence at the United States Military Service Academies (MSA) for academic program year (APY) 2014 - 2015. As part of a comprehensive review, DoD officials conducted site visits at the U.S. Military Academy, U.S. Naval Academy and the U.S. Air Force Academy, held focus groups with cadets and midshipmen, and reviewed academy policies, training, and procedures. “We are encouraged by the steps the academies have taken to eliminate sexual assault,” said Maj. Gen. Camille Nichols, the director of the Department of Defense Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Office. “All three academies are taking innovative approaches to improve both respect and safety of cadets and midshipmen.

Kongsberg Seatex, a specialist in position reference systems, has unveiled the latest additions to its DPS (Differential Position Sensor) product portfolio. Two new products, DPS 110 and DPS 112, have been developed to utilize the new Global Satellite Based Augmentation System (Global SBAS) introduced by the navigation specialist Fugro SeaSTAR AS, the SeaSTAR SGG service. This new high performance navigation service offers corrections to both GPS and GLONASS that enables sub-meter accuracy with worldwide reach.

Leica and NovAtel Will Develop Technologies For GPS

Leica Geosystems and NovAtel Inc. have entered an agreement to develop new technologies for global positioning systems (GPS). This is particularly relevant for equipment that will be based on the new upcoming Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS). In the mid-eighties Leica Geosystems was one of the first companies to develop and market GPS surveying systems. NovAtel, founded in 1978, also has the reputation of being one of the most successful innovators of advanced concepts in GPS technologies. These include significant contributions to the development of Satellite Based Augmentation Systems (SBAS) such as WAAS, MSAS and EGNOS.

NovAtel Receives MSAS Order

NovAtel was granted orders to supply another 13 reference receivers to the MTSAT Satellite-based Augmentation System (MSAS) in Japan. With the order estimated at more than $1 million, these receivers are scheduled for delivery during Q3 1999. NovAtel had previously supplied receivers to the MSAS program in 1998.

FastShip Signs Cargo Agreement

FastShip has signed agreements for wholesale cargo commitments with international freight forwarders AEI Circle International, GeoLogistics and MSAS Global Logistics. The agreements state that the shipping companies must commit to purchase future cargo space on the company's high-speed trans-Atlantic service on a "take-or-pay" basis upon service commencement in 2003. The agreements closely follow the commitment by the French government to establish Cherbourg as the European hub for FastShip's innovative trans-Atlantic service.

Ocean, NFC Merge

Ocean Group Plc has agreed to merge with rival NFC Plc to form a $4.4 billion logistics group with the world's second highest revenues. To be known as Exel Plc, it will have pro forma revenues of more than $5.6 billion. It will also have the scale and global reach to harness runaway growth in freight handling driven by e-commerce. Ocean will offer .28 new shares for each NFC share and "new Exel" - NFC is changing its name to Exel this month - will be around 50 percent-owned by each company's shareholders. The merger pairs Ocean's leading position in air freight forwarding through MSAS Global Logistics with NFC's strength in supply chain services.
