Thomson Reuters recognizes ABB as a Top 100 Global Innovator, honoring ABB’s commitment to drive innovations, commercialization and intellectual property protection.

This award recognizes companies around the world for their outstanding commitment to global innovation, the protection of ideas and the commercialization of inventions. “This award is a strong endorsement of our focus to develop innovative solutions for automation, energy efficiency and the power grid,” said ABB CEO, Ulrich Spiesshofer.

Over the last year, ABB has announced several innovation milestones including a combined low-voltage circuit breaker and energy manager, a new direct current fast charger for electric cars and a super-fast flash-charging technology for electric buses, and the development of a hybrid high-voltage direct current (HVDC) breaker.

The Thomson Reuters award comes after ABB was named as one of Europe’s top fifty patent filing companies by the European Patent Office earlier this year and after its recognition by the MIT Technology Review as being one of the leading global innovators.

In 2012, ABB invested more than $1.2 billion in research and development. The company employs some 8,000 technologists in more than 20 countries
