Hull Optimization Improves Vessel Performance
Several months ago, Avalon Freight Services (AFS) approached Elliott Bay Design Group (EBDG) to explore different keel options to improve the directional stability of its landing craft, Catalina Provider.EBDG's team of engineers worked closely with AFS leadership to understand the vessel's particulars, operation and route, detailed project objectives and determine a project plan. Multiple keel designs were considered as viable options for the 150-foot landing craft.

HII Wins 1.5B Deal to Build 15th LPD for U.S. Navy
Huntington Ingalls Industries (NYSE: HII) said that its Ingalls Shipbuilding division has received a $1.5 billion fixed-price-incentive modification to a previously awarded contract for the procurement of the detail design and construction of amphibious transport dock LPD 31. The ship will be the 15th in the San Antonio class and the second Flight II LPD.Ingalls’ LPD Flight II program vendor base consists of more than 600 manufacturers and suppliers in 39 states, including 387 small businesses.
